Redundancy
Redundancy
Has anyone ever been made redundant. Have been told today I am on the at risk register and will only be entitled to 2 weeks money and 30 days notice. I work as a Quantity Surveyor and it appears there is no work in the industry.
Pretty worried got bills to pay and its so close to Xmas!
Is that what's on your contract or are these new terms?
standard redundancy is a months wages for every year worked at the company.
standard redundancy procedure has already started, from the moment they tell you "your on the risk register" the clock starts, next stage will be consultations after a few weeks, if nothing is agreed and you opt to choose redundancy or are forced to then the 30 days notice period starts from that meeting, so could be anything from 8 weeks to 12 weeks in total depending how quick they wish to do the consultations
HOWEVER
that can all be negated if the fine print on your contract effectively waivers your rights to counsel etc etc meaning if they decide to force redundancy on you it can be 30 days effective from then,
(my contract had this waiver in until i refused to sign it)
good luck either way
As above, hope you don't need to experience it - if you can make yourself as irreplaceable as possible
Good luck
I will read it tonight however spoken to staff association which I signed up for and pay £1 month too and they have told me ill be entitled to 2 weeks pay and 30 days notice. I am unlikely to get any other deal as onky just been with them 2 years. Im starting to question why did I bother coming in hour early every day without fail and show comitment when this is the level of return! They have made someone straight from uni upto my position and he is staying in company. Feel abit betrayed
parthiban As above, hope you don't need to experience it - if you can make yourself as irreplaceable as possible
Good luck

Statutory redundancy is a weeks wages not months for each year isn't it .. ?
thats correct checked the direct gov website
Yeah, I've been made redundant before and statutory is something like £250 + 1 weeks wage per year as detailed above. It's not a person they make redundant, it's a role. So they will have identified that there are (for example) 2 people doing your job in your department and they only need 1. The same letter will go to the 2 people explaining that there's only room for 1 and they're trying to decide who to keep.
It's not pleasant unfortunately and there's little room for negotiation You are pretty much just a passenger from this point on.
