My MR2 3.0 V6
My MR2 3.0 V6
I thought i'd give you guys a little history on my car, how i got it and how its changed.
Back in July of 2008 I was visiting a friend in Lincoln. I've always fancied an MR2 and i got talking to the girlfriend. I was telling her how much i liked them, and how I'd love to own one and she said 'why not get one?' So as we started the trip home i had a think and i said, 'If we see 3 MR2's on the way home, I'll get one'
Now i hardly seen any MR2's on the road, let alone 3! As we were traveling down the A46 towards leicester we spotted the first MR2. Me and the Mrs looked at each other and said.. '2 more' Further down the A46 another MR2 approached us. At this point i got excited, hoping to see 1 more.
Quite alot of the journey passed and we were nearly home. I started thinking we weren't going to see another one. But as I pulled onto the A426 towards rugby a yellow MR2 whizzed passed us. Call it a coincidence, call it fate either way, I was over the moon.
That night i was on eBay looking for a white 2.0 NA MR2, preferably a Rev 3. And i found one, A 1995 White MR2 2.0 NA with 58K on the clock. The next day i rang up to view the car and off we went. I must have spent an hour there just looking at it.
Within the next 24 hours, My old car was sold and the MR2 was MINE!
This is how she was when i got her..
It was JAE time, and i had just got the car some new shoes. Some Advan SA3R’s. They were in a sorry state so I started refurbing. At the time i was going to go for a White/Black/Gold theme on the car, so the advans were getting a white lip with gold centers. This is how they turned out...
Before
After
Beauty!!
Another 2 Happy months had passed, and i loved the car! But reading around about these V6 conversion made me want one. So i decided to go for it! Unfortunately, it meant selling the advans to fund the project
I love working on cars, its my passion but i had never took something as big as this on. doing plenty of research online, i got searching for an engine. After a few weeks of searching i sourced my engine and i went to pick it up.
Over the next few months i stripped the engine down, cleaning, painting and replacing parts of the engine. I got down to the block and there was a slight problem.. The engine had covered 148K miles and being strangled by the auto gearbox the bores had a ‘ridge’ What normally can be honed out. But these were to sever and the bores needed a re bore and O/S pistons. This was out of my league for obvious reasons. So it was left to the engine builders.
The following work proceeded there:
New bearings all round
New thrust washers
Polished crank
Re-Bore
New o/s pistons and rings
Skimmed heads
New valve seals
Bottom end rebuilt
When i got the engine back i cracked on with painting and decorating! I ‘Um’d and ‘R’d on what color scheme to go for. in the end i went for black and lime green. And about a year down the line its finished!
The car has been running with the V6 for quite some time now, So its safe to say the conversion was a success. Up next was the interior...
Oh Balls that went wrong didn't it!
The pictures in the order they're suppose to be in...
So the Before..
And the afters..
And the finished engine..
If a mod could sort that mess for me please.. Need an edit button!
Those wheels look EPIC!!!!!!
Im loving the lime green and black for the engine also, exactly the same colour scheme im going for on mine, although yours looks like a close match to kawasaki green and mines ever so slightly darker, but not much.
I bought a lime green leather mr2 gear and handbrake gaitor on ebay today and thought of this car when i was buying it
Keep the pictures coming mate i love how clean this car looks
Jason
i love those wheels
i am after advans for mine but there all toooo small
nice motor tho and an excellent colour scheme
Thanks guys, Those wheels took an age to do. The original paint on the spokes was so hard to get off. My girlfriends dads a stone mason and i used his sand blaster to try get the paint off.. It wasn't having it. Ended up soaking it in nitromorse for several hours a wheel, Nightmare!
You're right todd, Now my engine has fully broken in its just got this beautiful tone. However i need a new down pipe and Y section to free up some ponies.
Steve
Now for the interior, I wanted something that matched the engine. So i drew a vector MR2 seat in illustrator and got playing with panels and colors, this was my result...
With my design complete i got to cutting and sewing.. and the end result, as you can see from the photo i opted out of using green stitch around the green panels, i think it was too much so went for a subtle black top stitch. Perfect!
Hope you like, Steve
do like that mate looks good
I love that engine ! And there can't be many people who have an interior colour-coordinated to the engine
