Bearings
Bearings
Those of you who were at the Ace Meet will know I've been having a whining sound coming from the front of the car sometimes and while the car's in at Lexus at the moment sorting that scratch asked them to look into this as well.
Unfortunately they've said my front left bearing has collapsed! They aren't too keen about me taking the car away as it is, and said if I do just take it straight to wherever you want to have it done (which is a little alarming as I've been driving around on it for a while now)
Not too happy obviously as it's looking like a pretty hefty bill again, as it's a Lexus part they've said that should be covered by a warranty claim but as it was fitted at WIM it won't cover the labour :Sulk:
Hopefully they'll do a decent discount - the all in price at the mo is £380
Yeah it's quite annoying, think I've just been a bit unlucky though. Although I've been driving around on it for a while following their advice and what I found having googled "collapsed bearing" I'm not too keen on pushing my luck any further so just want to get it sorted.
Btw, what exactly does it mean when they say "collapsed" bearing?
normally the bearings are keep in a type of cage so when its described as collapsed normally the cage has broken into a few pieces or in half and the bearings inside are floating around loose inside and if its not a sealed unit they can fall out making it collapse as there is no support for the hub to be on. and they wont spin properly as all the balls will sit at the bottom and unweight it making it spin wobbly

I had a collapsed bearing on a Mini Cooper, the darn thing overheated so much the wheel locked up solid. the repair was more than the car was worth by a long way:lol:
Just had a call from the dealer to say my car's ready, after some fiddling with the numbers the bill is going to be £165 so a lot better than the initial quote!
Glad to hear it's sorted
