can anyone shed any light on this?
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] LEXUS IS200 SE 2002. WOULD LOVE 2 KNOW HOW MANY IS200'S ARE IN THE UK.
HI someone told me today that in the morning when starting your car its better to drive off than reverse off. apparently this is better for your engine.
can anyone shed any light on this?

13-10-2017, 11:30 AM #2Not sure mate maybe, as you may well know the reverse gear is straight cut and the other gears are helical gears. And the reason they dont use the straight cut gears in the other gears (1-6) is because it is not strong enough. So when reversing when engine is cold, the oil will be thicker and may not act as a lubricant up to what it could do when warm, so may cause strain on it?

Straight cut gears are far stronger than helical cut gears, its simply the noise issue as to why they use helical gears. See race cars all run straight cut gear sets
