Is it a myth?
Is it a myth?
HI someone told me today that in the morning when starting your car its better to drive off than reverse off. apparently this is better for your engine.
can anyone shed any light on this?
Not sure mate maybe, as you may well know the reverse gear is straight cut and the other gears are helical gears. And the reason they dont use the straight cut gears in the other gears (1-6) is because it is not strong enough. So when reversing when engine is cold, the oil will be thicker and may not act as a lubricant up to what it could do when warm, so may cause strain on it?
Only what I think, but hey I'm only 14.
Straight cut gears are far stronger than helical cut gears, its simply the noise issue as to why they use helical gears. See race cars all run straight cut gear sets
I dont see how it will make any difference. Sounds like an old wives tale to me
If someone told me that i would bust out in lafter then walked away lol
Put it this way, have you ever heard someone say to another "that engine dont sound to good"
"thats because they reverse off then drive when they start the car"
Load of rubbish IMO mate, i have never heard this before
+1 for it being a myth.
Myth Busted.
What about if you have an automatic?
