Well I thought I’d do a little write up of the evolution of my car.
I got my Lexus IS200 nearly 3 years ago, when I decided I couldn't carry on driving around in a tiny Ford Ka forever. I knew I wanted a prestige saloon but not sure which one. I immediately decided I didn't want a 3 series or an A4. And I couldn't afford the repair bill on an Alfa. So that left a Merc and the Lexus. I wasn't 60 yet for a saloon C class so the Lexus it was.

I found an IS200 sport near Liverpool and dragged my mate Gav along to have a look at it. He never lets me live down the words I said on the day I bought it, "I don't want to modify it, just change the stereo".

Three years later, the car is as you see it today.

It all started when I started looking through the owners club. They are a bad influence and I blame it all on them to be honest.

First came painted callipers, then an exhaust, induction kit and a set of coilovers. A few other bits and bobs (such as a new front bumper) followed before I got my hands on what I really wanted. A TTE compressor kit. The power on the IS200 is a bit low for a 2L straight 6 at only 153bhp. This kit gives you an instant 50bhp boost to just over 200.

The kit uses an Eaton M62 and just bolts onto the engine with a little FCD to control the fueling. Six hours of fettling in the garage and I had a supercharged IS. I still miss the loud whine the Charger gave off, "like something from Mad Max" is one of my favourite comments.

However I soon grew bored of the power, so a bigger intercooler, de-cat manifold and a Greddy Emanage helped the power to rise to 217. Which isn't bad at only 0.3bar.

Unfortunately it was believed at the time that the conrods in the 1GFE engine are like chocolate, and for anymore boost I'd have to either swap them or swap the engine. Because the Is200 isn't exactly a popular car on the tuning circuit, there is sweet fa off the shelf for it. So after getting quotes the wrong side of £2K for rods and pistons I found Steve at Silverline Racing.

He offered me an alternative. A 2L 1GGTE twin turbo setup from the jdm MA70 MkIII Supra. The conversion in theory was simple. As the engine is the same family the block should be exactly the same, so just swap over the mounts and away you go. So I thought about it, I also considered a 3L TT 2JZ-GTE from the MkIV Supra and the 2.5L 1JZ-GTE from the Soarer. But stuck with the 1G as costs with the other engines could spiral out of control and we could keep a cap on the 1G. So three months later, and constant emails and phone calls from me for updates, Steve somehow shoehorned it in. Coupled with a 3inch exhaust system and LINK G4 Storm ecu she was alive.

I definitely made a good decision and love every minute of driving the car. Hopefully not too far into the future I'll change the two twins to a big single (I've already bought the manifold), and I've just purchased a set of VERY, VERY rare adjustable cam gears for it. The mods just keep happening though. I like to do as much as I can myself, plenty of wiring and electronic gadgets.
