I don't know if it was a stupid thing to do, as hard as it is for anyone to find work, I was risking being looked upon as someone who took emplyment for granted, but on the other hand, I was very unhappy and I suppose risking my own health if I stayed, so I made the decision to leave, with the intention of training for a new career.
As it happens I am as clueless today as I was when I left school as to what I want to do with my life with regards a rewarding career, so I thought best to head back into retail, as it is hard enough looking elsewhere for work, so I got a job working for sports direct, a company which blatantly flaunts the law, under paying staff and ignoring Sunday trading laws (the store i'm in anyway at the very least), and they take on all staff as part time on a 0 hour contract, thus offering absolutely no job security whatsoever, but as they say, a job is a job, if I was a college student after some beer money this would be ideal, but i'm not, so its not.
I have just applied for full time at Orange and passed the initial assessment, i'm not grasping at false hope as I have generally bad luck with interviews and online interview questions, being out of practice I assume, my aim this time is to get onto the bottom of this ladder that I do want to climb, with a full time permanent contract that comes with job security, one less worry in today's world
I just thought i'd share that with everyone, so please wish me luck
i'm applying for a new job, its nothing special, i've always been in retail and I quit my job in January having given over 7 years to JJB sports, in those 7 years I had given 110%, wherever possible, taken 3 promotions, none of which I had to apply for, but when I had problems with a couple of store managers and an area manager along the way I was unfairly treated and was left feeling that my constant 110% was all for nothing, and I failed to gather required evidence to consider a tribunal, so coupled with my stress and the fact that the new owners had pretty much ran the company into the ground, I walked out

I know what you mean about finding a job, i been out of work now for 6 months and its really starting to get me down! i get no money off the government even though i've worked solid for 22 years and have only ever signed on once in my life? and there's nothing round here that i can do without having paperwork to say i can do the job even though i can do most with my eyes closed :angry:
And one of the things that really p's me off is there are 24 polish guys living in our street and there all on 50k+ a year jobs :cursing:

its silly isn't it, i've even applied for countless apprenticeships as I know I have a brain in here somewhere and have always been willing to try something new without fear of failing, good self motivation etc, and been turned down for so many, simply lacking experience, it seems companies don't understand that we have to start somewhere, they just don't want to be the ones that we start with

quick update: just completed the next step, an online questionnaire, one of those talent pool things that asks a question and gives 3 multiple choice answers, however one is more correct than the other 2, but any of the answers is normally acceptable in my book, see example below:
this is normally where I trip myself up, you are asked to answer honestly, but some of the questions can be quite vague, and my experience has tought me to adapt to suit the business thru the various job changes i've had from one company to the next
for example:
A regular customer approaches you just as you are locking up the store at the end of your shift, they require an upgrade and would like it done now, the customer can upgrade themselves by phoning customer services but this takes longer, what do you do?
a. Return to the store and process their request
b. Explain the customer can upgrade themsleves over the phone
c. Ask the customer if they can return to the store the following day where you will upgrade their phone as a priority
I answered A as a sale is a sale, and in a customer's eyes to me it demonstrates good customer service
but lets say the company has rules on prompt closing, for security reasons or whatnot, which I wouldn't be aware of since I haven't worked for them yet, therefore the other 2 answers are possibly more acceptable than my answer,
its hard to know what a company is looking for from a person, but having worked in different sales environments, I am happy to adjust, but I can't put this accross in a multiple choice answer, lol, so the answers I have to give could mean not making the interview, where I could convince the interviewer how, despite the silly questions, I would be well suited to the position
its ****** frustrating to say the least, I really want this job too, lol, its just up the road in the next town, where there is rarely traffic to be stuck in, so its fuel efficient(my current work place is about 6 miles away but its uphill all the way, and the return journey is almost always stuck in traffic), free parking (1st come 1st serve), and its a permanent full time position.

Your not at all. And most questionaires are like that. You think you know it, b ut then complications like you said play a part. Is there any security reasons etc.
