Chucked an opinion into the mix...
I reckon skylines and supras kinda epitomise the jap style for me...
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuupra
What the Japanese did was copy the European manufacturers, but did the job better than companies like British Leyland....... etc they introduced the world to "reliability" via the everyday cars not the sports cars. They didn't however have particularly good looking cars back in the beginning....
So the original Datsuns are the "icons" the cars that opened the flood gates for Japanese cars.
However it was Toyota with their range of sports cars that did it for me: MR2, Celica, Supra. But the Hi-Lux will get as many votes as any sports car because it did for pick ups what the Datsun did for cars - lets face it it is an "iconic" vehicle in its own right and can be found everywhere round the world regardless of terrain.
