CAR AIRCONDITIONING - VERY IMPORTANT!
My Friend sent this to me don’t know how true this is
My car book says to roll down the windows to let out all the hot air before turning on A/C.
WHY ?
Car Airconditioning - No wonder more folks are dying from cancer than ever before. We wonder where this stuff comes from but here is an example that explains a lot of the cancer causing incidents.
Many people are in their cars first thing in the morning and the last thing at night, 7 days a week.
As I read this, it makes me feel guilty and ill. Please pass this on to as many people as possible. Guess it’s not too late to make some changes.
Please do NOT turn on A/C as soon as you enter the car.
Open the windows after you enter your car and then turn ON the AC after a couple of minutes.
Here's why: According to research, the car dashboard, seats, air freshener emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen - take time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car).
In addition to causing cancer, Benzene poisons your bones, causes anemia and reduces white blood cells. Prolonged exposure will cause Leukemia, increasing the risk of cancer. Can also cause miscarriage.
Acceptable Benzene level indoors is 50 mg per sq. ft. A car parked indoors with windows closed will contain 400-800 mg of Benzene.
If parked outdoors under the sun at a temperature above 60 degrees F, the Benzene level goes up to 2000-4000 mg, 40 times the acceptable level.
People who get into the car, keeping windows closed will inevitably inhale, in quick succession, excessive amounts of the toxin.
Benzene is a toxin that affects your kidney and liver. What's worse, it is extremely difficult for your body to expel this toxic stuff.
So friends, please open the windows and door of your car - give time for interior to air out -dispel the deadly stuff - before you enter.

There may be a limited amount of risk - probably the same from your mobile phone.

I have noted here people park with their convertible roofs down and put them up again to drive. But I feel this is to reduce the heat build up inside the car, and its just to hot to drive with the roof down in the summer months. Everyone has AC on all the time - its never off.

totally worn out and broken, shouting 'Holy ****, WHAT A RIDE!'"

So you are saying my car is out to kill me and my (hypothetical) unborn child?

Lexusboy Here's why: According to research, the car dashboard, seats, air freshener emit Benzene, a Cancer causing toxin (carcinogen - take time to observe the smell of heated plastic in your car).

This chemical is so dangerous and intent on killing you, that they recommend you have a really good sniff, and inhale as much as possible?

Though their may be some truth in this, I do not think it is a real risk. For years people used a product called Scotchguard on their carpets and upholstered furniture. When one of the chemicals was found to be a carcinogen they stopped selling it. Yet there is not one proven case of it harming anyone.

Sounds like a load of stig to me...

If it is true, best add it to the list of everyday things that are going to kill us all. http://hellokinsella.posterous.com/the-d...give-you-c

think this aplies if you smoke in your car then yeah benzine is in cigarette smoke so will be trapped in the air vents, dash, seats etc.
also what chems do we use to clean the dash with silicone spray so that gets airborne too.
how about just banning the chems in ciggys rather than the tobacco they add the chems too? we'd all be safe again

check the ingredients for new car smell?
heres what wiki says about new car smell...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_car_smell

A two-year study[4]released in 2001 by the CSIRO in Australia found several health problems associated with these chemicals. CSIRO research scientist, Dr Stephen Brown, reported anecdotal accounts of disorientation, headache, and irritation in some drivers of new cars. He measured pollutant levels in new cars that were sufficient to cause similar effects within minutes in controlled experiments by other researchers. Chemicals found in the cars included the carcinogen benzene, two other possible carcinogens cyclohexanone and styrene, and several other toxic chemicals.
