Been wanting to go further afeild on my mountin bike I went on the search for a cycle carrier for the boot, Which I hated, As it over hung on the sides of the car too much and didn't feel too secure. So I sent that back to Halfrauds.

So after browsing a few local free ads i came accross a pair of thule roof mounted cycle carriers, So off I went to get them.

Luckily the same day I found a genuine Lexus roof bar system, Which I asked them for a sneaky buy it now price on Ebay, Which the seller came back with a price posted which I accepted!

So for the grand total of £100, I got myself these

Think the new price for just one of the cycle carriers is about £60, Unsure on the Lexus roof bars but as they are genuine i'd expect them to cost a bomb!

Probably one of the most practical mods I have ever done to a car!

That looks far nicer on the car than those stupid strap on rear bike racks, more inline with the Lexus image.

Thats OK for a clean bike - on the way to the mountain...... On the way back - roof every time!!!

I was going for one of the boot mounted ones at first, But didn't like how it sat on the boot, Plus my bike didn't fit on it too well, Had to have one on the rack at an angle and the other hanging over the sides of the car (Imo, dangerous!)

Didn't really want to have a bike on the rear seats of the car as I didn't want to damage the interior of the car, I would have been taking 2 bikes out with me (Mine and the gf's) so after I was loaded up with the bikes there wouldn't have been much room for anything else!

At the Minute I have 2 hardtail bikes (One is a GT which I have uprated a load of parts on, And the other which is a scott which the gf rides, Which I built up with the bits off the GT)

I had a full on downhill rig before I bought the Lex, never thought it was a good idea clamping it by the wheels for a roof mount as it was so heavy. And didn't like the idea of putting it on the boot because the front wheel had a tendency to swing round and lean on the paint (on my old car). Confusedhock:

Ended up selling it after I bought the Lex as I never had time to use it Sad

Thule are a good make though, my boss has a set on his Hilux and he's has some pretty heavy stuff on them.

EDIT: I had a Specialized Demo 8 by the way :thumbup1:

There is also a bar that goes upto the cross bar and it clamps there, The wheels are just secured in place to stop it moving back and forwards.
