Got an Altezza Auto and just popped an instrument cluster from an IS200 in it, cheap and cheerful kph to mph conversion :-)

Only issue, handbrake light stays on no matter what and the back lights don't come on Sad

Any ideas from the electrical gurus :confused1:

Cheers

Do the revs work correctly? I would have though that the clock from a 6 cylinder car would read under when connected to a car with only 4?

Some of the wiring is slightly different I thought? But sorry, I am not enough of an electric guru to help you here.

Handbrake light on means check the brake fluid and also check the brake lights....

If the fluid level is low or a brake light is out the handbrake light comes on...

As for the backlights, dumb question, but have you turned up the wee dial that controls the brightness? It's on the left hand side of the dash cluster by the steering column and if it's either not properly plugged in (I know, I didn't plug it in right when I changed my backlights) or turned right down you'll have no backlights...

Afraid that's the sum total of my knowledge on this one!

DaveEdin Handbrake light on means check the brake fluid and also check the brake lights....

Very good point. Though it could be any number of sensors that are wired wrongly causing this. Or you could have a genuine problem, which you would have to read the fault codes to check, though it is unlikely to be an actual issue arising while the car was parked changing the clocks, if it did not do it before!

Now you mention it, I have forgotten to plug this in before! The level knob is part of the circuit, so without it plugged, no lights!

Well the handbrake light was working fine before but I'll check the levels later on.

I never had a control knob for the lights on the altezza, funnily enough I do now but I don't think the Altezza has the wiring for the control knob, will have to check that out again.

Thanks for the pointers so far guys, certainly gives me something to start looking for.

When I did this mod the other way round (Altezza dials in my IS200) I found that the dimmer switch was by-passed somehow, as the lights functioned without the dimmer even being plugged in! So I would assume you will need to splice a wire to do it the other way round, as the feed which should be from the dimmer just won't be there at all on your Tezza.

I also would second what Stoney said, when I put 4 cylinder dials on my 6 cylinder car the dial read about 1.6x higher than it should, so you will probably get the reverse on yours.

But a cheap converter off eBay will fix it if you have that problem?

The reason for the cluster was to avoid the speedo converter LOL

Compared to the GPS the speedo looks spot on, up to 60 anyway.

As for the lights, if it's going to be that much of a hassle splicing and hunting for wires, may just put the altezza one back in and get the converter after Sad

You would need a mph to kph converter mind, most are the other way round!

The lights probably have no power at all without the feed from the dimmer switch. Maybe not such an easy conversion as it might first appear.

Nope, would need a kph to mph as it would be the altezza dash I would use with the converter ;-)
