After watching Senna last night it was a little spooky to see another racing driver die this morning, my thoughts go out to his family and friends at this time he was a true character and a very likeable guy

further info and video of the horrific crash here - http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/blog/from...car-wp4538

Marsdendean has the 5 million bonus got to do with him still going flat out while people are crashing ..

I doubt it - you can hear him lift as the accident happens in front of him. Oval racing is f**king dangerous at the best of times and you don't get to where he did by driving like an idiot. Those open wheel indy cars are all designs from the late 70s/early 80s before safety was a big thing. They still all run on methanol as fuel for example, you have little or no head protection (HANS devices aren't mandatory) and they don't use wheel tethers like in F1.

Remember in this racing league it's normal to be 4 abreast round a bend at 230+ mph!

He was a great driver, a really nice talkative chap god bless him.

Really tragic - horrific crash.

Watching it in slow motion though makes it look worse, there was the original crash which wasn't that bad, but then the mayhem was caused because those behind didn't back out - obviously split second stuff but having watched a lot of motorsport over the years (not much american stuff though) I've never seen anything like it.

Seems all the statements about quality of drivers and too many on track were spot on - almost as though everyone went into the race thinking something was going to happen.

I don't know what needs to happen over there before they realise they need to bring in the safety that F1 brought in years ago - despite how horrific that looked he would have had a much better chance of survival in a modern F1 car, that was ridiculously scary how that car was torn to pieces.

Makes me really sad having seen the replay, the death looks totally avoidable if there had been some slightly more sensible driving and slightly better cars.........RIP :crying:
