I am using a wireless connection, i know this isn't as good as wired, but i will be moving in the new year, and it's too much hassle to wire from downstairs to upstairs, at opposite corners of the house.
I rang playstation, they advised me to contact the router manufacturer (belkin) and get them to open the ports. this means nothing to me, but i did it anyway..the guy said that should work..it didnt. i can rarely connect, and when i do i get disconnected within about 20 minutes. i only play crysis2 online(the only game i currently have)..anyone got any suggestions?
bare in mind im not technical when it comes to computers.

thanks!

It sounds like you just have a weak connection. I know that my mobile phone (which will stay connected to the wifi router upstairs all day long if I'm upstairs will lose it when I'm at the opposite end of the house downstairs.

It sounds like a chore but if you take the PS3 and connect it to a tv upstairs odds are that the connection will be perfectly fine.

If that works then all you really need to do is get hold of a signal boosting type device. Have a quick read here

the router is in the downstairs back room, the ps3 is in the upstairs front room..when i go to connect, a lot of the time it says signal 100%..so i don't think its a case of a weak connection?

Ah I see what you mean. The connection generally goes:

Internet --> Router --> PS3

And I was thinking the issue might be in the second link of that chain. If it's in the first then you'll likely need a new router.

Few questions:
Who is your internet provider?
Do you have any other devices that connect to the router wirelessly and do they show the same problem?
If you connect directly to the router with a cable (to a laptop for example) does the connection still drop?

If you have a PC connected to the router you can usually tell whether the router is having trouble connecting to the internet by checking the router setup page (You might need to check the manual for this, it's often on an IP address like 192.168.0.1) that you can see in your internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox for example)

This will usually tell you if the router can "see" the internet or not. If the problem is the router connecting to the net, you're probably best just getting it replaced.

to have a better connection maybe worth investing in powerline adaptors
http://www.ebuyer.com/270594-exdisplay-e...9e7-1u36-3

I bought some but mine are 200mbps, you wont get the full advertised but its much better the PS3 "G" connection and unluckly you cannot upgrade the wireless card in the ps3.

Plus the powerline is ideal if you need a direct connection for anything, unplug, plug into any socket in the house and you get an ideal connection.

my signal is rubbish in my bedroom so i use it there. but have used it previously on the ps3 when streaming media smoothly
