The reversing camera in my LS430 is on its way out and the picture is really blurred. I've taken the camera out and I can't see anything physically wrong with it so I'm assuming that it has become moisture damaged at some point.

Problem is, Lexus want silly money for a replacement (read: over a grand) and the breakers also know its value and are charging upwards of £200 for a new one. Here's the ******:

My question is, could i potentially hack a cheap ebay camera in its place and just wire it up to the oem harness?

Given that both cameras operate at same voltage and are PAL/NTSC or whatever. Is there anything else that might make them incompatible?

Jim i am sure if you make sure it running the same voltage and re connect the old connector it should work.
The camera's are only around 20-35 pounds so it worth trying anyway...

Certainly works in theory. Good ones can be had for under £20 too. (One of my next mods!)

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

Yeah exactly. I think I'll just buy one to give it a shot. If it doesn't work, I guess I'll have to look out of the back window instead when reversing :tongue_smilie:

Awesome lol. Whats wrong with it?

This is what I had my eye on as a replacement as it seems vaguely similar in size, shape and mounting.

On a bright sunny day and clean roads, nothing, it's perfect... However, after a drive and bit of wet or dirty road, its like a view through a CSI microscope where you can analyise what you see and work out where you have been

One question, is the camera in the LS430 any different to the ones in almost every Lexus/Toyota? Well worth checking out how much the cameras cost for the other models as there's a good chance they will all be roughly the same (perhaps requiring slight modification)

2002 '02' IS200 SE Auto - DVD Satnav with Voice Activation - Strathcaron Blue - Parking Sensors - 5000K HIDs with Anti-Glare Bulbs - PIAA 6500K Main Beams - LED Sidelights - Mirror/Sunroof Closure - TTE Styling Kit - 18" Styling Kit Alloys with nitrogen filled Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric Tyres - Bluetouch Multimedia Kit - Gromaudio AUX in - Black painted calipers with silver Lexus decals - 12 LED Dome Light - 96 LED Boot Light - Stainless Steel Sport Sill Plates - PIAA Silicone Wipers

There really doesn't seem to be any available (on ebay at least). Do many Toyota's come with rear cams?
