My Winter Beast 2012 - Audi A6 All-Road 2.7T
Hi guys,
After years of struggling with RWD cars in the snow I decided to put a stop to this last year.
I work for myself so if I don't get to work I don't get paid. Simple As.
Last Winter I bought a SWB Shogun 2.5TDI with All- Terrain Tyres which was very agricultural (for me) and was like driving a boat but it was awesome in the snow and slush. I sold it just before the tax ran out in April to a farmer in Cumbria.
My Ebay Advert is still LIVE:

This year I was looking at something similar to get me though the winter again but this time fancied something smaller and light too so was looking at the Suzuki Jimny, Diahatsu Terios, Shogun Pinn and similar.
Problem with them is they are awful on the motorway and also not much use when I have a baby seat and pram to carry (getting old one.......:laugh so I thought about something a little bigger
Somehow the thought process went a little off-plan and I ended up getting a much bigger low mileage Audi A6 Quattro All-Road with self raising and lowering air suspension.
To quote the seller
"Suspension all works as it should, normal height is 2, it automatically drops to 1 at higher speeds ie motorway driving. 3 and 4 you can raise it too for country roads/mud tracks, fields etc. Allroads have wider track (the wheels sit further out giving a wider stance than the standard Audi A6 models, coupled with the Quattro system and the adjustable air suspension it makes the Allroad a formidable off roader, it also handles very well on normal roads of course." At the top suspension height they have almost the same ground clearance as a Range Rover!
I was after a 2.5TDI diesel but the ones in my price range (cheap as possible!) were high mileage ranging from 138K miles to over 200K miles!!!.
A friend of mine just bought an Audi 1.9TDI Avant with 138K on the clock and it drives superb and feels tight as a drum so that made me less scared of mileage.
I looked at fuel consumption and the diesel does 29MPG combined, whereas the petrol does 24MPG so I didn't think it was worth getting a tatty high mileage diesel over a nice clean, low mileage petrol.
A tidy 2.7T 250bhp (Twin Turbo - similar to the engine put in the B5 S4/RS4) came up for sale that caught my eye. It looked MINT for the sale and very well looked after, only 106K miles, Air Suspension all working as it should (all replaced by previous owner at a cost of £4K) and a generally very clean car considering the age.
On Wednesday my friend Nadir and I went to Wales to check out the car and we came away with my very own Audi A6 Allroad. Its the first car I have bought ever that my mum and dad actually like!! Its a obviously a different world to the Shogun and has probably one of the best rides I have ever experienced in a car its like a magic carpet with the air suspension.
I am very impressed with the car so far, not a rattle and you can feel its very well built. The luggage capacity has been very handy this week too with collecting my brother in-law from the Airport and having to transport some PCs for work.
I have always been a BMW man when it comes to German cars, but the build quality of the Audi is very impressive.
Not exactly a drivers car, but a lovely crusier and I no longer have to crawl over speed bumps. The Quattro system does give you a really nice secure feeling in the rain. I would say its not the best looking car in the world but I do think it looks classy and if it had a private reg would look expensive (was £36K when new!)...........depreciation is a wonderful thing for the used buyer.....
Here are some pics from the sales advert. (Will be up for sale in 6 months or so..........unless it gets under my skin and I start thinking of remapping and modding....:lol

Only mods planned will be a set of Xenons and white sidelights
Thanks

Anees You could do with it actually - would be a nice complement to Mrs Moley's X3.

also make sure the suspension works perfectly.. if there are any issues get it fixed asap otherwise it may turn out to be expensive as the airsuspension is known to fail on these.
On another note a friend has an A4 estate with 160K miles on and its still tight, solid and quiet
