I'm sure Speedfreek will be interested in this bit...

So HIDs have now become part of the test? Going to have to take mine out each time then ad:
Marsdendean It's wrong they can go backwards. A 1993 imPort has the same mot rules as a brand new car :/

VOSA MOT Inspection Manual. You can find and download it here. The wording in Section 1.7 Headlamps is very interesting.
Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given.
Headlamp washers may work in conjunction with the windscreen washers (when the dipped beam headlamps are switched on) or by a separate switch.
The word 'may'' appears to be a get-out-of-jail-free card because the following 'where such sytems are fitted' suggests there will be instances where they aren't! Thus no fail.
Other things which may cause us trouble
If anyone has got a fixed bucket seat they are going to be in bother - see Section 6.2 Method of Inspection.
Airbags (SRS system). If the car was fitted with one as original equipment, Section 5.4 could be interpreted as meaning aftermarket steering wheels which do not have one are non-compliant.
As far as a catalytic convertor is concerned, tubby owners should note the following key wording - 'on vehicles that qualify for a full cat emissions test, check the presence of the catalytic converter'. As no tubby qualifies because it is not in the “In-Service Exhaust Emission Standards for Road Vehicles” book nothing has changed. The Section 7.3 flowcharts tell you all you need to know. N/As are a different matter.
A JDM G-Ltd MR2 is a grey area. I would say that it ought to be covered under the personal import criteria. That might be the subject of some discussion with the tester.
The engine transplant situation is clear. The test is according to whichever is older and in the case of the engine (whereby the less onerous emission levels are being sought) the onus is is on the presenter to prove it.
NOTE; I've taken this from another forum
Thanks TLF

Not according to Ormi. He says different any car that was driven before 2002 doesn't have to have a steering lock as long as the car is immobilized by another mean. It's in the mot manual some where
