When I had my last set of LED tail lights the lamp failure light always came on when I braked the first time after starting the car. One way of dealing with this problem is to use load resistors, but that's far from optimal. Not only do they eliminate the energy saving advantages of LEDs, but they also generate quite a lot of heat behind the trim in the trunk.

An easier way of doing it is by simply disabling the lamp failure sensor. Here's how.

First you want to expose the wires and connectors behind the trim on the left hand side of your trunk. Do that by removing at least these three clips.

Also remove this one

For the sake of this DIY I removed the trim completely. You don't have to do that.

Unclip these two pins

The lamp failure sensor is hidden behind the steel panel.

This is what it looks like. You don't need to disconnect it.

When you've cut either one or both wires just refit everything and you're all set.
