The wife has given me permission to buy a car to tinker with as she doesn't like me moping around the house complaining that I don't have a hobby.

I've been looking on ebay for cars under £2k that are 1) Jap, 2) Turbo'd, 3) Good looking.

I've never really given the 300ZX much though before, nor have I seen many modded ones or really any driving about. Is there a reason why I shouldnt consider one?

I think they are prone to head gasket failure and I'm not sure how much boost they can take without upgraded internals. There was a disaster story on driftworks not so long ago, but to be honest I'd find a 300zx forum and have a heavy read through them.

Engine bay is a pig to work in - very tight.

However a reliable one is a beautiful thing.

Yeah, if you're gonna have one as a project make sure you buy an engine hoist!

After doing lots of reading I think I'm going to back-off the 300ZX as they sound like a bit of a potential nightmare. More so if I can't even DIY on it without pulling the engine or getting my knuckles ground down.

Shame as I think I actually prefer the look of them to certain other highly acclaimed 3 litre twin turbo jap cars.
