Should I vote, YES to AV or NO to AV ?
Should I vote, YES to AV or NO to AV ?
In all of these non-democratic nations, the government controls the press, and there is very little opportunity, or none, for free speech. Citizens are not allowed to publicly express any criticism of their government. The most basic rights that we take for granted, such as a speedy and fair trial by jury, and freedom of religion, are not recognized in these non-democratic nations. If they have elections at all, they are usually a sham. Only a few candidates are listed on the ballots, and those are for local office. The people do not get to choose their leaders.
The UK is not only one of the oldest democracy's in the world, but it is one of the most successful. Our Constitution allows for the possibility of change in the way we elect our government. So use the opportunity to say your happy with the way elections are held or want a change. Show me a dictatorship that allows the PEOPLE to have a real say on how he/she stays in power.

Oh so very true.
Sorry bit late on this one, I voted NO for the simple reason that I think it's stupid. If you don't think they're worthy of your single vote, then they don't deserve a vote, the whole idea of someone getting elected due to more second choices is just ridiculous in my view.
Despite its problems, AV is so bad that I think even proportional representation is better as a concept than AV.
Yes to a certain extent there is a risk that it will help those extreme parties like the BNP as people can now vote for them without thinking their vote is wasted but for me the main problem with AV is that it's just silly.
Either way we don't need to worry about it any more
