Phil01 ohh the joys of modding an engine for more power, that is the biggest reason I have never done serious engine mods as you can never get the car to run 100% everyday with lifting your bonnet and spending more cash to try and rectify said issues, nearly every person that has upgraded for more power has aggro after. Thats just my opinion and I guess people will reply and say "rubbish".

Agreed. I think its impossible to NA-T a car without encountering issues. The amount of hours that manu's spend in R&D can't be matched anywhere else. Some tuning garages may come close. But never OEM reliability.

I think my problem may have stemmed from the meth injection though. I already had cold plugs and I was slapping cold meth on top of it. I think I'll try running OEM heat plugs and less meth and see what happens there.

You are very right there Phil. All my mates that have gone for custom turbo conversions on n/a cars, or upgrades on stock turbos, have always run into problems, and not one has had 100% reliability, in most cases nowhere near. One of my best mates had a GT4, running 350-450 bhp (dependent on boost) and would spend 3 months getting a rebuild, then blow something expensive within a couple of weeks, then off the road another few months. They start to eat away at your wallet pretty quickly too, and you gotta really be committed to keep them roadworthy. Possibly the only exception to that rule is the TTE charger on a 200 (due to it essentially being an OEM part) with which problems are virtually unheard of (if running no other mods). Though that is not the biggest power hike, it is still considerable.

You are very right there Phil. Plugs changed. Car is running much better now, though maybe not quite 100%. I seem to be running rich at idle. Could be tuning related, though the OEM ECU should be able to maintain 14.7 without problems at idle. Maybe I have a vacuum leak? Or maybe I knackered my PCV rotating it round the right way for my catch can?

Jeez, I would say that sounds quite poor for a Toyota engine. But I guess you're still adding 1/3 more power with the TTE charger.

I think on mine the transmission will probably die first. It seems to get a bit confused with all the extra power. Sometimes it'll hold onto gears well into the red line and then do a neck snapping shift to 3rd.

I do doubt that, with NO OTHER MODS? Firstly, it's hard to believe Gord would ever have had no other mods! Big Grin Was his one that went not running a higher boost level on a non-stock pulley? TDi have popped one too as well I believe, but running much more power than the 200bhp the charger alone will give (210 max!) The rods should be able to handle that! Some of the turbo guys run 300+ on stock internals nowadays, though as you'd expect, that CAN cause problems!
