Company Laptop query
Company Laptop query
Well i start my new job next monday and im getting a company laptop,
my question is, is there a way to browse the internetz without them knowing? can i create a sort of sub section or new logon for private browsing?
I dont want to "to$$" the job off internetting all day but i dont have a laptop at home so use works net for banking and stuff and dont wanna get busted
Know nothing about this stuff, but from my experience if you're on their network they can track everything? We used to get fun emails stating facebook stats
It's probably only traffic they monitor rather than tabs being open. But even then it might mean they don't care about a little internet usage?
They can check these things when you connect to the network or need updates etc .. and if there's any personal use of a company laptop (even if allowed) you should get taxed for it on your P11d

It's a much bigger risk for them to take too. Desktop computers in the corporate environment are great - they're permanently connected to the network, permanently manageable and monitorable (is that a word?) and cost about £100 a box. Laptops cost more, are more fiddly and more prone to breaking, and wander off for long periods of time without 'phoning home'. Therefore they get treated differently as they are a greater risk.
I'd be highly surprised if you have admin rights on the laptop (if you do then your new employer's IT department aren't doing their jobs properly) and so you won't be able to create a new user / profile, install applications, etc. You'll just be able to use it, rather than play with it.
