New laptop :D
Really really nice actually, its an Advent (i know how flimsy and not strong enough built they used to be) but this feels like a strong, sturdy laptop, its a Roma 2000, went into PC WORLD 350.00 for a 160 HDD, or 330.00 for a 320gb HDD, 20 pound less for a bigger harddrive, its crazy isn't it? 3GB RAM, Windows 7 Home Premium. It really is a good laptop.

got the missus a little dell netbook for christmas she seems to like it.
and bought myself a portable 320gb HDD as my 160 ones on its last legs and sometimes refuses to load.
gonna copy everything across then format see if that helps. if it does can use is a hdd for the new blu-ray player!

But i have a 120gb external harddrive, but my old laptop died and now i cant get anything off my old laptop onto this new one, which is the biggest pain in the neck in the world.

14-11-2016, 07:39 AM #3Yeah my brother has a mac and a little toshiba netbook, and my mum has a little asus netbook, both good, serve their purpose and are good because my brother is student and is easy for transporting also. But i would prefer a bigger laptop as it has better speakers, and its bigger as i like bigger laptops as more room to move about etc.

What happened to the old laptop ? If it's old hard drive is still working, then you should be able to remove it and install it in an external USB housing (which you can get from Maplin etc, just make sure you get the right sort, e.g. IDE, SATA etc) and then connect it via USB to the new one to transfer your files. Then you can still use that old drive as some handy portable storage.

14-11-2016, 08:40 AM #5It was a compaq presario c500ea, loaded up, got to vista loading screen then turned off, turned itself back on again and stayed at the intel screen.

ok, doesn't sound like a hard drive failure to me. For enclosures, I imagine it'll be a 2.5" drive being in a laptop, you probably need something like this (they do other ones too).
