I have an aftermarket Sony ZAX Double Din unit, I play everythin on it via my USB, including music and divx videos. All of a sudden I can't seem to play videos anymore, the folder is there but the videos arent, but they are on the usb when I plug it into my laptop.
So im not sure what the problem is

Could be a few things but most likely is that there is a file in that folder that the head unit doesn't like. Try removing any videos you've recently added.

Also possible is that the filesystem on the usb stick needs checking due to not being 'safely removed' from the OS, when you plug it in does Windows prompt you to "scan and fix" the drive?

I had a similar problem with my SD card, copy all the files on to your pc, format the SD card and then copy them back again.

I will try that out toxo, didnt have any scan and fix pop ups though

And I'll do that el_bandino, I did try it before but without formatting the drive, guess that could be the difference.

I really don't understand them sometimes, I got to the point where I was ready to bash my head unit in. Worth a try anyway, it seems to be something to do with the way the head unit indexes the contents of the drive. I found that adding new stuff small amounts at a time seems to ****** it up sometimes. Ended up skipping loads of songs because it decided it couldn't find them. Loads of my avi movies vanished as well.

el ban, ive sorted it, I'd forgotten how to use the **** thing, had to select video before they can be played, :o
Thanks for the advice anyway.
They charge a lot for these in dash units but they arent very user friendly.

Also I wana ask have any of you got around playing videos whilst the headlights are on? For some reason it doesnt matter wether my handbrake is on or off, if I have the headlights on then video stops for 'safety'

Mine plays video quite happily with headlights on - I had to ground the wire that was meant to connect to the handbrake cable so that it would play while moving, but no issue with headlights.

Maybe you've connected the wire that was meant to be on the handbrake cable to the headlights somehow?

IS200 Sport - Sold
Mazda 6 MPS - Zoom Zoom!

Modifications
Completed:

Currently 280bhp/295lbft; 3" Meercat custom exhaust; KW Suspension; FMIC; SSP; HPFP; Custom Stainless Steel Dials - for the moment, the only set in the world!! (Till the group buy for MPSOC anyway  )

In Progress:

E-Tuning remap ongoing via Cobb Accessport; Braided brake lines; Stubby aerial; Tinted repeaters and sidelights; 3 Port Boost Control Solenoid; 3" HTP Intake

That sounds like a unique feature of that model, most stereos don't do that. You could disconnect the illumination wire (orange wire on ISO harness) so that it won't know when the lights are turned on but then the buttons won't light up when you turn the lights on, and so on.

Don't think so, pretty sure illumination wire is +12V where handbrake cable is -VE/ground
