same here.

Unless it has had a hard drive then I let it idle for a bit before turning off.

I could be talking complete twoddle here but I always thought that it was better to drive gently fom cold so the engine and gearbox can wrm up together rather than just leaving it for five minutes or so. In the Lex I always wait till the engine temperature guage is half way before really giving it some grief but to be honest, I never really give it grief in the first place. I do exacly the same with the Micra. Scrape the windows, start the engine and drive off. I don't have a temperature guage in that but it never really has the bits reved off it as it's an auto.

Big note in the front of the MR2 handbook saying the car should never be left stationary with the engine running for more than 30 seconds Big Grin

It knows its having a cold start, thats why the ECU has coolant temp sensors. Fuel maps are adjusted accordingly and boost gets held off until it's warmed up (so you can't get more than 1-2psi even if you are flooring it when cold). As much as I whinge about the stock ECU that's one bit it has got very right.

I don't go above about 3krpm until the temp gauge is settled in the middle which is only 3 or 4 minutes and is enough to comfortably get you to 60. Don't give it any boost pulls until I've been driving for 10 mins (don't have an oil temp display but you shouldn't boost until oil is around 85 degrees). Last 5 minutes of journey off boost to let everything cool down nicely.
