4 ohm Dual voice coil sub
4 ohm Dual voice coil sub
Only passing on advice from installers at Bass Junkies mate. Their other point is each coil is rated 1/2 the total wattage cappacity. So if the woofer is 400w max, then each coil is usually 200w max. depends on your sub though - contact the manufacturer for exact details?
dont wire up a single coil.. as phil states you will only have 1/2 the rated power and will end up damaging the sub, amp or poss both.
if you run it at 8ohm you will blow the amp.
if you run at 2ohm and the amp isnt 2ohm stable, you will blow the amp...
the link (post7) 2tongues gave is right.. what amp is it and is it 1 ohm stable? if so them this is your best option.
alternatively if its a stereo amp then wire each coil as normal to each channel..
Thanks Redz,
The amp is a JBL GTO2000, rated 400watts at 4ohms, well thats the info I could find on the internet 2/1 channel, bridgeable
All I want it for is to run the sub only, so one bridgeable (mono) channel will be used, can you give anymore details on this amp and what wattage will it produce once bridged and what ohms please mate, You appear to be the main audio man here,
then advise the best sub connection, 2,4,or 8ohm configuration.
need this info asap as got tomorrow off work and plan to fit it.
Thanks,
a: 1x 220w rms @ 4ohm - which you cant do with your current sub..
b: 2 x 75w rms @ 4ohm - which you can do with your current sub..
just run each coil to the left and right outputs..
you could run it as (a) at 2 ohms using option 1 off the 12v site ( http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer...p~Q~1~I~42 ) but you will find that it will either keep going into protect or just blow..
