If you've got a GPS speed camera detector or something you could use that to see how accurate your speedo is to start with........in any case just because it flashes doesn't mean you'll get a ticket. Sometimes it will go off because it thinks you're going too fast but then won't issue a ticket as you weren't going fast enough.

Also were there 2 flashes or just one? Might just be a faulty camera....

@ Saraj: That was a dual carriageway with a 30mph speed limit? Don't think I've ever seen that before Confusedhock:

There's a short piece of dual carriageway not too far from me that has a 30 limit.

Yh it was, I questioned the same road when i was out driving on the driver improvement course and the instructor said unless stated otherwise assume its 30, even though its a dual carrigeway

It is a common misconception that the default speed limit of a dual carriageway is 40. But as you say Saraj, it's not true.

yh thats where i went wrong and got booked and went to a speed awareness course who in fact had the same tutor as the driver improvement course, actually both were the same course just named differently so i managed to make myself look clever by answering all the questions lol

Clearly that's a change that's happened silently - it used to be that if not stated otherwise and not in a residential area then assume national speed......which is what you'll find in a lot of the countryside, barely any road markings and it's all national speed.

Should really be clearly signposted if it's 30 and not a built up area. Cheers for the tip though, will have to pay more attention on the odd occasions I wander out of civilisation :tongue_smilie:

(just kidding, don't :ShootingSmile

That's if there's no streetlamps that it's the national limit, usually the dual carriageways have streetlamps on them.

Good point, shouldn't have been so stupid :Fish:

That's for single carriageways though isn't it, if I was on a dual carriageway with no signs I'd expect 70mph unless stated otherwise.
