2tongues Reduce the alcohol level to zero for driving.

That would be ideal,

but what about the nice designated driver that hasnt had a drop of alcohol but being around the drunkards for such a length of time means they have inhaled enough fumes to get 0.00001milligrams in their bloodstream?

are they still prosecuted? even though they didnt drink?

NB: im not sure how effectively alcohol is absorbed into the bloodstream via fumes etc so im not trying to be factual

On second thoughts perhaps using scientific methos on the rate of alcohol absortion via fumes you could equate that for example

the average human absorbs X amount of alcohol via fumes of an X density over an X amount of time

thus leaving a limit that would allow for fume inhalation of designated drivers, and if this limit is exceeded it can only be deduced that fumes were not the culprit but actual consumption?

Zero limit, I agree with that - if you're driving, don't be drinking - end of.

2tongues Getting a bit "unreal" there, alcohol via fumes is not going to happen.

....................................for real?

any fume that you can inhale can be absorbed into the blood stream, ethanol spirit, paint thinners etc

how does nicotine from cigarettes get into your bloodstream?

All my statements are based on being "hypothetical"

if the tolerance for alcohol in the blood is 0.00% and you register with 0.01% then it could be determined you have been drinking and are over the limit???

as ive said im not a scientist and an extensive google search cant find me actual blood absorption ratios of alcohol fumes

but common sense would dictate that any fume entering the lungs is going to be absorbed

lots of stories online though of the jack daniels distillary workers and temp workers always being on a "high" at end of the shift

im not opposed to your idea, but wondering if it can be really that clear cut?

It can be that clear cut, if the machines are set to measure to 0.00% then 0.001% will not register thus getting rid of things like fumes, aftershave etc.

Its all about common sense, if your driving then DON'T DRINK.

In order for Alcohol itself to become airborne it needs to be vaporised - like the vapour bars in America. http://www.awolmachine.com/page-2.htm
I have tried it and it blew my head off:drink:

I agree with you wholeheartedly but would hate for it to affect the innocent aswell

We can live without it, but I prefer the Swedish way. Only sell in government shops and charge a huge amount for it, it works there to an extent from what I could see.

Take a look at this story:

Banning Alcohol isnt an option. If a ban on all alcohol within the UK (under a certain %, eg 0.5% Vol, for Mouthwashes?) then there would be a huge problem as drug dealing would increase. Many people would be able to illegally import alcohol and it would be sold on street corners etc. Alcohol is also beneficial to the Government due to the High Taxes they have already put on beer in supermarkets and pubs, thus giving the government more profit.

Its like Cigarettes, they wont ban them due to the high income the government are getting for it.

A 0% Limit may also be too low as mouthwash etc can also affect breatalysers... Its a hard one.
