For the price of building the 1gfe/1g-gte combo you could have a 1jz in there pushing well over 350hp on almost standard and you get to mate it to an R154. The G engine family was replaced by the J engine family for a reason. Have a look at SamB's car, it's got a non vvti 1jz in it and he did the conversion himself.

You can't really say the j family replaced the g family for a reason.

It's like saying the cossie engine was replaced by the 5 cylinder Volvo engine. Things just move on thats all

The 1g isnt hugely difficult to fit, just needs the drivers engine mount modding a bit. I'm still using the standard gearbox as well, though that's for fast road rather than drifting lol

Fair enough, but the 1JZ is undeniably a better choice, particularly if he wants to be drifting.

I'm not having a go Stav, your engine is mental, it's probably the most powerful G engine on the planet. From a purely academic point of view, I think a 1j would suit his needs a bit better. I'd hate to trust a J160 gearbox when you are bouncing off the rev limiter for a whole day.1jz is built for abuse, if he's drifting, that's exactly what it's going to get non stop.

It would probably cost about the same amount of money to get a 1j or a 1g to 350 bhp and mounted in an is200, the 1j would have more torque though. I also think the G engine hits a bit of a glass ceiling at that kind of power, unless you are willing to spend a ridiculous amount of money.

As I'm daft, I'm putting a v8 in mine Big Grin

oh i know mate, and completely agree that for the OP's use. The 1JZ has more bits available for upgrades and more importantly spares. And ive already mentioned about the gearbox.

we all have different goals otherwise it'd be boring lol
