daft money is no object car build thread
Wait a few years and buy the supra mk v then.
OK, Let's have another crack at this....... So, what would I do if I really had a bottomless pit of money to build a car......
It would still need to be a Mk1 MX5, But I'd start with an Eunos Roadster so I had the little toys like electric windows and aircon.
First I'd test fit the "Universal Intercooler" wide arch kit that it would need to have (Same as I had on my old MX5) and trim/re-weld the bodywork accordingly. Then it would be stripped down and sent to "Surface Processing Ltd" to be chemically stripped and zinc phosphate dipped (If I had the money, Why would I ever want to worry about rust bubbles again?).
Next would be to test fit a "Wizdom Front Bumper" and a carbon fibre copy of a Racing Beat type 1 boot spoiler (Had one on my old '5. Not particularly functional, But I think it looked spot on). Then the car would be sprayed a bright orange. For some reason, colour makes a huge difference to the look of an MX5. A bright body colour make the whole car look so much more up to date! The bottom centre Blade bit of the front bumper would be gloss black, As would the arch extensions and the windscreen hoop. Bonnet, boot lid and hard top would have to be carbon fibre.
I'd still have a soft top, But I think it wouldn't be too hard to adapt a modern electro hydraulic ram system to save me the strain of raising it by hand.
Inside it would be mostly black leather, But with the centre section of the seats and a few tasteful accents done in body coloured leather. While the seats were being covered, I'd have heating elements fitted for those rare cold days we get in the UK.
Now to the fun bit! For power I'd want a H1V8 building. For those that don't know, That's a compact 2.8L V8 thats made by grafting a pair of Suzuki Hayabusa top ends onto a common crank case. What you end up with is a 400bhp V8 that revs to 10k (Sounds like a giggle to me ! ). I'd need a one off sequential gearbox made to go behind it, But hey, Money's no object... Right?
Not sure what diff I'd use. The larger 1.8 casing with a type 2 torsen core might just put up with the strain. Failing that, I'd have to look at what the big power RX7 boys (And girls) run out back.
Suspension wouldn't be over the top. I did "Rock hard" on my old MX5 and the resulting back pain took all the fun out of driving it. Maybe something from the TAIN "Street" range?
For wheels I'd get 16x8" XXR 530's and have them powdercoated high gloss black.
Front brakes would be the biggest alloy belled/floating disc's and Brembo 4 pots I could fit under the wheels. The back of an MX5 has callipers with an integrated handbrake mechanism, So I'd need to find a better replacement that also has that. As well as a mechanical handbrake, I'd want a hydraulic "Wand" handbrake too (For those times when I go out on my personal drift track (...... You DID say "Money no object". ).
There !
I think that just about does it. Well, apart from the usual frippery's, Like low profile quad headlights, Momo race steering wheel, Black tinted rear lights/bumper lights/side repeaters, Vented headlight lids, Offset numberplate bracket....... You know, The usual MX5 mod stuff.

(Have I ever mentioned that I still miss my old MX5? Selling her was my worst decision ever. :crying

Seems like we have a lot of realists on here as the "money no object" cars are all quite achievable! Where are the ideas of transplanting an enzo drivetrain into an IS and similarly crazy projects? :tongue_smilie:
Just to add my thoughts, I'd like to put the V10 from a Dodge Viper into a 3 Series BMW Coupe But have the interior from Koenigsegg Agera R
I've been doing some research...
I've changed my mind about the engine.
BMW V10 from the old M5 with the Koenigsegg camless heads. 6 or 7 speed double clutch semi auto box.
I once measured up the engine bay of an old Fiat panda to see if a 2.0 Fiat twin cam would fit....... Does that count?
As a side note, I once got sent to fix a computer in a automotive engineering place. While waiting for windows to finish reinstalling I had a little wander about to see what sort of stuff they were working on. The two that spring to mind were a space framed, RWD, Red top Cossy powered Ford Ka, and a Mk3 Capri with most of the boot floor and inner front wings cut out..... Sitting over Mk4 Supra running gear !!!!!
One of the mechanics there was building it for himself. I really wish I'd payed more attention to where this workshop was, I wouldn't mind popping in again to see how much further along the Capri project's got now.

Ok, build number 2:
SAM, AVERT THY EYES IMMEDIATELY
Base car:
Late spec Toyota Supra
Exterior:
Same pearl white colour as the IS on page 1, any body panel (including the roof) is replaced with a carbon version and painted over.
Gen 7 celica widebody front end, like so:
19" rota GTR wheels in gun metal
NO SPOILER on the back, just a smoothed lip. I'd remove the horizontal brake light too.
rear bumper like this:
Again, I'd probably add an extra inch to the width either side just to make it a bit meaner.
interior:
Rip out the back seats and do an audio install
Pimping recaro seats:
I would remove the old supra dash entirely and get something build that looked a bit more modern, imagine a mix of the S15 dash and the IS350 interior. Nardi steering wheel (because why not?).
Full reupholster again in half leather/alcantara. Red stitching with black leather on dark grey alcantara.
Running gear + suspension + brakes
Brakes, ridiculously big carbon ceramic everything, 12 pot fronts and 8 pot rears with floating discs as big as you can fit under 19" wheels.
Engine: BMW S85 V10 engine with camless heads from Koenigsegg. 7 speed double clutch triptonic whatever style gearbox. Quad exit exhaust (2 either side). ECU will probably have to be custom due to heads and amount of cylinders.
Meister R coilovers
Uprated anti-roll bars, custom everything else designed for grip and straight line speed.
toys:
Decent quality audio install
tracking device
Race logic traction control
