Bandit The best bit of kit i have is the owner, all the rest just sits there unless he gets of his rear to use it :thumbup::laugh::laugh:
That's the worst bit of my collection, the owner, everything else at least isn't rubbish ! :laugh:

The MR2 however is kept in a spotless condition and is washed once a week regardless if it goes out or not. With my new carthough it should be stone chip free and spotless so worth keeping that way. Can anyone recoment a paint protection film for the front end? and do these films still polish up nice?

22-02-2017, 10:51 PM #22I think the reason why polishing my car isn't top of my list is I hate to find more stone chips and stuff like that, so by not washing it I don't see the damage caused by the very thing cars should be doing - driving.

I think Steve over the other side had a paint protection film fitted to the front of his IS250 and he was very happy with it, but I remember he did a lot of searching to find it as he wanted the full bonnet done and not just half way as many do.

I think most Japanese paints are pretty soft. German paints tend to be the opposite.

22-02-2017, 11:14 PM #26I think your right, the Civics I test drove all had lots of paint issues - stone chips, scratches etc. at only 20K to 30K. Which is why I went with a 7K dealer owned example - can't be that damaged in 7K.

See you have the Poor boys range for removing swirles what the best one you have used for that so far and what pad do you use?
Why don't we all recommend one item that we really like in our kits?
Yeah probably spent a fair bit but compared to some on DW my collection is nothing! I don't see the point in buying something, trying it once and then not using it again, just a waste of money IMO. Some people buy 20 or 30 waxes and will use a different one every few weeks...just can't see the point or be arsed with that.
If I had to choose one product it would be ONR (Optimum No Rinse), this is a god send when you live in a flat like me. As the name suggests you don't have to rinse it off. I use it with a grout/tile sponge (much softer than a normal sponge), clean a panel at a time and then dry. I can do the whole car in 30-40 minutes not including the wheels as they don't always need doing.

Jap paint is suppose to be very soft, although not necessarily thin from what I've been reading up on. I'm doing a mates S2000 soon and Honda paint is prone to swirling/marring very easily, especially when you use these hand car wash places.
If you're worried about stone chips on the bonnet what about getting it wrapped in vinyl like I've seen on a few cars recently. I was down Car Audio Security the other week and their demo car has carbon fibre on the roof, looks awesome :thumbup1:

Sorry I forgot to answer this one...I've only used SSR2, not 2.5 but I really do like these polishes, especially as there is minimal dusting. The menzerna I find dusts too much for my liking although they're very good polishes.
When I used it, it was on a menzerna polishing pad (the big orange one out of the bag) and it's very easy to use. Has a quick work time though compared to other polishes, i.e. it dries out quicker.
You can use it by hand and less is more as they say, you really have to work it in though for it to work. Too many people cake a thick layer on and leave it thinking it will do something magic! It won't! :laugh:
