always go for the better spec pc wont get outdated as quick
again it all depends on your situation as to what you can afford to get in one go etc for example you could buy the housing and the screen one month the car pc the next and so on
thats based on my spec but i left off usb hubs things like that for a basic satnav and media your looking at

You can save a lot more with a cheap netbook or even better, a laptop you already have, if you can fit it in the boot or glovebox. Even something 2nd hand off ebay as PCs and laptop depreciate worse than cars! Could run from a cheaper power supply then also. Rab's screen is very nice, but again, cheaper ones are available.
On the other hand... you could get a better spec one built up, and spend two or three times as much! There is a lot of flexibility in a system like this and you can get various specs for various budgets IMHO. As well as gradually upgrading as and when funds may be available.
I'm currently trying to do a lot without much money!
Rabs, as it is kinda on topic (now it's not on your build thread!)... Can you recommend any specific reversing cameras? I'd use the AV input on a HU screen in an IS, but I assume the same one can be used as yours? It's one of the first things I want to do now, right after I pay for a sub box!
EDIT: Right after I pay for a sub box, (if it's still going?) and I pay for JAE!

Rabster Depends on how your one functions does it still go up and down in the car automatically via ignition or electronic switch ?
Hey rabs, hopefully after the ribbon cable is fixed you press the button on the cubby and it rotates back and then the jap sat nav comes on, the jap screen only comes on once the button is pressed, but I think it's only a 9v motor running the sliders for the cubby door so could be used for anything I reckon.
