Hey guys!
Thanks for all the advise, it seems as if the 1jz is the best! Although the 1g does sound like a fab and easy idea, from what I can gather the 1jz can get more power?
Would I need to customise the engine bay much though? Obviously it depends on what engine I go for the twin turbo non-vvti version or the single turbo vvti version.. and I've heard the vvti is the easier fit?
I couldn't possibly buy someone else's car and undo all their hard work!
Oh and p.s. I'm a her not a he.
1JZ will fit in the engine bay no problem. 1jz will take a lot more redlining abuse, so it's a better choice for drifting. Huge after market for the non vvti 1j as well, they are also getting quite cheap now.
The most expensive part will probably be the engine management! I think you can use GS300 mounts to attach the 1J to the is200. SamB is the person to get in touch with if you decide to go for a 1j swap.
I heard the engine management part would be a bit of a pain, but then surely it would be regardless of what engine I put in?
A lot of things are coming out anyway (aircon, electric/heated seats, abs - if I can, etc) so a little less things to worry about!
aftermarket ecu should be fine, some people keep the is200 ecu to manage things like alarm and whatnot. There is quite a bit of information on the net about 1jz tuning and management.
That's alright then, the alarm system is getting upgraded, fed up with the standard alarm and it's problems! Cheers fella!
I would seriously get in touch with SamB, or someone else who has done the swap. They will be able to tell you everything you need to know. Driftworks might be a good place to look too, as a lot of cars over there are JZ powered. I spent a lot of time looking in to this swap myself, as far as engine swaps go, it isn't that complicated. Make sure you get a 1j with the correct sump position too, which should be front sump (I think, I'd verify that though).
