DIY Supercharger Issue
The best solution to the fuel cut problem is to use a "black box" as supplied with the kit by TTE. These are however impossible to find, and so many people use an HKS FCD, it's not an ideal solution, but it will work. Patrick (P.Lindblom, posting above) is making some Black Boxes, I believe, that a couple of members are now running. ad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. ad:It is easier to just feed a constant 12v to the clutch than try to remove the clutch and bolt it all together. Though having it switchable is an idea I find kinda cool, as would my neighbours, when I get home late at night!

So assuming I've got that right, the blacboxes that Patrick makes would be perfect for a switchable charger setup.
I'd been having a think about it myself, and if you want to do it really fancy...get a spare heated seat button (the ones that push in and stay on) and mount it vertically in one of the switch housings to the right of the steering wheel. Then just wire up the positive feed to the electronic clutch to that switch. Maybe even make a little logo that says 'SC' to go over the heated seat icon?
One thing to bear in mind is that it will probably be necesarry to depress the clutch and let the revs drop to idle before engaging the charger as the sudden added resistance of the charger would probably snap the belt after a while.

12-08-2018, 02:32 PM #54IIRC the great thing about the blackbox is that unlike the HKS FCD, it only starts changing the reading after a certain point up the scale i.e. when your boosting. The rest of the time it just leaves it alone. Whereas the HKS FCD gives a false reading all the time, regardless of whether or not it's actually required.

I've reinstated the clutch on my charger to help with mpg and to give the illusion of a stock IS until I give it the beans :biggrin:.
I've had all three piggyback ecu's on my setup. TTE blackbox (until it terminally packed in and partially melted), the HKS FCD and the Greddy BCC.
All three coped with the clutch element without error. All that happens when the clutch engages is a small jump in boost pressure (maybe 0.075bar), a bit more noise, and a big grin on your face.

Its been an idea thats been floating about in my head for a while now to try and do a custom charger install but from seeing what people say it may cost put me off but now i'm getting very tempted. What would be the total cost to do this taking into account fabrication of the cradle?

just finished my diy induction,and yes i know my engine bay looks crappy,but it can stay that way untill i finish the charger fit?

You need to have [IMG] tags either side of the image, not just the link. Use the button that looks like a couple of mountains against a yellow sky, paste the image link into the popup box and it should insert the tags for you. I'm sure a mod can correct the above post for you though.
You could even have started a new thread for this, as this seems to have very little relevance to the DIY supercharger which is the topic of this thread.
