Bit of an update........

er.... unlike my last car PC this one so far has been reliable! I really want to update my Car PC thread with more pics.

Car also has been fine no major issues to report. Got a bit of jerkiness on part throttle but I am going to fit a recirculating dump valve rather then the Forge atmospheric one I have now which should hopefully fix it.

The other thing I have realised is that from a practical point of view the steering lock is really PANTS!! I visit lots of schools for work that have tight car parks and if I take the Evo it really struggles; it looks like I can't drive with my efforts to get into tight spaces! My S2000 was much easier in that regard!

The noise also means I do sometimes disturb the classes........ Blush

Still love the power however! Had an Audi S3 try to take me on last week from a set of lights on a motorway slip road. I wasn't even paying attention to him but lets just say he was behind me all the way till he turned off flashing his hazards. Big Grin

Had to take my mum somewhere yesterday to show her a route and we needed Sat Nav so I took her in the Evo (because I have my Car PC Sat Nav) It was her first time in the Evo.

Her observations:

- horrible noise when you change gear (dump valve)
- horrible loud noise when accelerating (the exhaust)
- sounds like it is leaking when accelerating (the HKS Racing Suction Induction Kit making a sucking noise!)
- your bottom has to fit into the Recaro bottoms (need a Recaro a**)
- uncomfortable
- causes neck ache everyime I touch the accelerator
- feels like being on a Roller Coaster.
- she said she felt like she was going to have a heart attack every time I touched the accelerator!

Its safe to say she HATED IT!! :blushing::lol::lol: and I was not really driving it fast.

The disclaimer is that my mum is someone who drives a Lexus RX300 which is like a cruise liner and probably as far as you could get to an Evo.

So far, my sister, mum and dad hate it.

My younger brother and wife love it so not sure how to take that.

In preparation for the Nurburgring we carried out a few jobs today on the Evo.

I went to Auto-Serve in the morning and it was quiet so we put the car on the ramp and dealt with a few niggling problems I have had for a while.

1. Breaks keep squeaking at low speed.

The pads were taken off, surface area all cleaned out and we used some of this stuff:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?V...3292wt_999

instead of Copper Grease. A lot of people on MLR (owners club) have used it to stop the pads squeaking (common issue)

We noted the Pads were about 50% worn so I think after the Germany Trip I will probably have to consider changing them.

RESULT - So far so good! No noises so far!

2. Brake Calipers looking a bit tatty

The lacquer on the calipers burns of and turns white-ish which makes the calipers look pink. I rubbed the calipers down to get rid of the lacquer and then applied three coats of fresh lacquer.

RESULT: Limited Success. Looks better then before but really you need to fully remove all the old lacquer which can only really be done by taking off the calipers. Still better then it was and they look alot more Red again.

3. Handbrake too high

Result - Adjusted and it is now nice and tight.

4. Rattle from the centre of the windscreen

The front camera I have was rattling against the plastic base of the rear view mirror. It was removed and a bit of rubber padding was used to eliminate noise

Result - sorted!

5. Rattle from pillar pod

The pillar pod kept moving and hitting against the dash when going over bumps causing a rattle.

I removed the pillar pod and using some foam tape I taped the bits that touch the dash (you can't see them!) and also tightened up the screw that mounts it to the car.

Result - Much better. No noises so far

6. Worrying noise from the front of the car when the car got hot. I was thinking it was all sorts.

Thankfully it was not too hard to find. It was the exhaust downpipe which being larger then stock touching a support cross bar under the car. When the exhuast got hot, obviously the heat caused it to expand and touch the bar - hence why the noise was only when the car had heated up.

RESULT - bent the bar down out of the car. Now no noise!! Big Grin Big Grin

Just need to give it a good clean and invest in shares in Shell and should be ready for the Ring.

The only other thing is I need a Sat Nav that has European mapping on. The Nav software I have on the Car PC is UK only Sad
