after checking the fob by opening it up
it takes a bigger battery (cr2016)
could this be the problem?

thanks

Try this matey: Stav sent me this when I first got my IS and it worked no prob.

Open Door.
Insert key into ignition then remove.
Using C/Locking switch on the door press Lock-Unlock 5 times.
Close then open door.
Lock-Unlock 5 times again.
Insert Key.
Turn from Off to On Twice.
Door Lock should respond.
Hold down Lock on they key and press Lock-Unlock 5 times again.
Release Lock button on key and press unlock.

40mm Lowering Springs, Re-sprayed Front, 6000K HID's, Re-furbed alloys, Bandit Induction Kit (cheers Chris), Raised boot spoiler with LED, Blue calipers with silver decals, De-badged rear, Chrome Oil Filler Cap (thanks to Chris again), White LED dash bulbs, Blue a/c control bulbs, Blue door markers and interior lights, Sony head unit, Chrome Lexus tax disc holder, TRD side skirts, Original Saloon Front Bumper re-fitted instead of Sportcross

That does sound more like the method I tried and it did take a couple of attempts, ur main key is definitely a master key isn't it?
