Do you need to put a new screen into the sat nav to get it playing a different video source? Or can you get or make a video input cable?

Not even got the car yet, and already planing stuff to do LOL!

If you've got the larger 7" sat nav screen there is an input cable you can use somehow. It's been a couple of years since I read about it but I know it can be done.

Yes you can make the standard unit play video however if I remember correctly it will only play an RGB video source unless you convert composite to RGB it's not hard but in doing this you are limited with the outcome

If you change the screen like I have done you get more scope for future for example

My screen out the box allowed me 2 x av video sources 1x pc + touchscreen and worked out cheaper than trying to make factory unit work :-)

If you check my build thread or my car pc update it shows my screen doing what it does lol

Wicked, does the satnav unit have audio????

My idea is to have an Ipod running video to the satnav screen and if the satnav uses the stereo for sound. Keeping the standard head unit.

If not, I will replace the head unit and screen, have still got my xtrons head unit that I could use. But want to try get a more OEM+1 look in the interior.

If you can plan the whole thing and are not in a rush you can do what I have done now in my car

No not in a rush, just need to spend as little as possible. Not interested in having a full car pc. Just want to be able to plug Ipod in the glove box and have audio/visual. And possibly satnav too.
Need to see if I can get a satnav unit with audio out and video inputs LOL!
