Battery Fluid
Thanks for everyone's help with this, my boot looks like a right mess now but hopefully all it'll need is a good clean.
Luckily it was still damp, liberally poured baking soda everywhere (on top of and under carpet) and there was quite a bit of fizzing as it neutralised the acid. There was also a bit that had run into the wheel well so put some in there too, followed by a good soaking with water to dilute everything down.
I think I'll just take it to a car wash place later in the week and have them shampoo the boot thoroughly and then hopefully all will be ok, carpet looks fine for the time being but I don't know if it will still disintegrate over time. How quickly will it rot if it is going to?
It will show signs of rot fairly quickly so if it looks OK now you probably got away with it.

I thought you got your new battery from Lexus Parthiban.
Usually their price is fitted and they dispose of the old one so you don't have all these problems.
Anyone thinking about buying a new battery, take this into account. Lexus prices are generally cheaper than Halfords etc. and it's fitted.

Yes Dave, totally correct. But my dad has a trade card for halfords like others on here. Sometimes that can be cheaper than actually going to Lexus themselves.

No of course not and I hope you don't think I'm saying your stupid.
It's just that I know when I replaced my battery Lexus (actually Toyota) were cheaper than anywhere else, I think it was about £62, and this included fitting and disposal of the old battery. Now I'm more than capable of fitting a battery myself but when all I had to do was drive to them and let them do it I'm afraid I take the easy option.
Obviously your circumstances were different.

Had the boot valeted earlier today and everything looks fine, carpet looks perfect and the boot floor also looks unmarked - hopefully nothing will change but I'll keep an eye on it over the next week or so.
Thanks again to everyone who forced me to get the baking soda and water on asap which appears to have worked as long as it doesn't get any worse
