Engine Conversion
Engine Conversion
Prices based on stock engine, stock twin tubbies, so would only need a stock ECU.
On Site/premises, only difference being travelling costs maybe a little extra for loan of premises (I have a agreement locally).
As I say, figures off the top of my head, but I wouldn't be far out I don't think.
note to self..........dont spend the wedding fund cos you cant drive it if your deadcared:
I'd be amazed if you could do a 2JZ for 5K hock:
You'd need a new propshaft, would be advisable to upgrade the brakes, new downpipe etc, and the custom work would be huge.

if you could go 2jz for less than 8k all inc then that's a bargain

Roadside Tech When do brakes come into an engine conversion costing? :blink:Surely when you do an engine conversion you need to check the rest of the car can handle it. You wouldn't put a hugely uprated engine in if you thought the brakes weren't up to the job, surely ? So it's sensible to cost things like that in.
What custom work would be huge?
Seem to be loosing track, we're talking about an engine conversion. You wouldn't need a full custom exhaust, the custom bit would be the front section.

Custom work would be huge like physically getting it all in, engine mounts etc, getting the a/c working, all the ancillaries connected back up, cooling and pretty much everything in the engine bay, as well as the front end of the exhaust and propshaft as you say. Also the electronics, things like the rev counter, etc, etc.
Sorry but I think you're hugely underestimating the work involved.

also, In my opinion, and my opinion only.
its a very basic way of doing it.
without a custom ECU and full exhaust it'd be very limited. i doubt you;d get the standard 320bhp (or 280 for a jap engine) out of it.
I must stress this is just my thoughts. and i'd love to see it completed.
Brakes, tyres, suspension, underpants, chassis rigidity, diff etc should all be considered when tuning. The thread title is about an engine conversion and a guy through his engine options and some prices that are already out there. Are the other prices quoted anything other than for a running engine conversion?
I don't mean to be rude, but what is it you do for a living? I don't mind being doubted by another mechanic, but not another IT guy who's got his experience by the internet.
I've probably done 5 or 6 conversions over the years, Toyota engines in Nissans, Yanky into Toyota, auto to manual conversions etc blah etc blah
