Engine Conversion
Engine Conversion
Sparkystav also, In my opinion, and my opinion only.
its a very basic way of doing it.
without a custom ECU and full exhaust it'd be very limited. i doubt you;d get the standard 320bhp (or 280 for a jap engine) out of it.
I must stress this is just my thoughts. and i'd love to see it completed.

Roadside Tech Brakes, tyres, suspension, underpants, chassis rigidity, diff etc should all be considered when tuning. The thread title is about an engine conversion and a guy through his engine options and some prices that are already out there. Are the other prices quoted anything other than for a running engine conversion? The 7.5K for a 1G-GTE conversion includes full custom exhaust, getting all the ancilliaries and gauges working again (with the exception of the fuel economy gauge), decent ECU to get the most out of the conversion etc.

Sorry if you feel there's a hostile audience here, it's not meant to be. But quite a few people here have seen quite a few people with IS200s have attempted engine conversions which have either gone hugely over-budget, have been massively more complicated than previously expected, all sorts of problems have come up, or some combination as the above.
Like Stav, I'd absolutely love to be proved wrong on the potential costs involved !
Roadside Tech Why would it need a 'custom' ecu? if you're running a stock engine, there's no need for a standalone.
The exhaust, yes of course you'd need some applicable to the engine, but I'd imagine someone looking at an engine swap is already at BPU and would have some sort of sports exhaust.
Tough audience around here.

I have had a quote from a local Jap tuning centre that has done quite a few conversions, with Supra's and skylines, and they said that they'd be able to drop a 2JZ-GTE in my car for 3-4k, similar to roadside's estimate they said £1500 for the engine etc and then about £1500-2000 in labour for the swap.
This is as roadside said for a standard engine conversion thus you can use the standard ECU etc, a good set of brakes on the IS are good for about 300bhp anyhow so wouldn't have a prob with a standard conversion.
I am sure with the initial conversion the power change would be great fun anyhow, then anymore power you wanted you could then save up for and do, knowing that the engine can take the increases and you'd know of any uprates that were needed!!

So a lot less work, presumably, to go to a 2JZ-GTE ?

Please please please then, someone get it done, it could bring prices crashing for everything else at last

I'll have a look at the links in a bit, thanks for those.
Define limited?
Stock 2JZ-GTE can push out 400ish BHP then you're limited, alright for starters, no?
I won't be going out buying one to do it, the 700BHP (limited by stock internals) only one in the UK 6 speed Aristo is my company advert, although I might be tempted to sponsor a conversion at some point.
Can I just say (again) those prices were off the top of my head for a pretty 'normal' engine conversion. If someone asked me to quote, I'd obviously look into it a lot more, such as would X engine fit in X bay being one of the first questions.
And in all honesty, I probably wouldn't get involved in something like this for a while yet, as they're not money earners, unless you're someone like i D T who charges for everything twice and keeps changing the goal posts
