I have seen a huge increase in the past twelve - eighteen months of smaller businesses either unable to meet their bills and winding themselves up or disappearing, or being too nervous to continue going it alone and closed up seeking paid employment. This has had a notable effect on the medium sized businesses I deal with, where they are incurring bad debts and wasting valuable time seeking new suppliers. Maybe this is part of the reasoning behind this decision.

I've also noticed the Revenue have seriously stepped up some efforts to trace non payers, chase late filers and not make it quite so easy to walk away from their responsibilities - about time !

Yes definitely a good move on chasing up non-payers.

But those businesses generally won't be affected by the upper limit? The rate that was 30% not that long ago coming down to 23% by 2015 seems too big a drop compared to the increased business it is likely to promote?

Maybe it's to entice the businesses that have moved their operations abroad back or discourage anymore of our big enterprise from emigrating.

The bigger businesses are struggling in many cases as much as the smaller ones, they have different pressures but a lot more of them and they get stung in so much costly red tape on general daily operations that must prove expensive to manage - we have seen a few major enterprises disappear over very recent times

I imagine they are probably working with information to suggest that the new tax revenue earned by encouraging new business will outweigh the losses from the tax cuts - just wish there was a link to employment (in the longer term) to encourage them to use some of the savings to create new jobs where possible.

Deposits are silly for houses. Glad I bought many years ago and have a good equity built up to use elsewhere.

They tax the oil companies which will result in less they will spend on exploration and upgrading and repairs on their oil rigs . Which in turn will equal less work for us which then equates to less money in the bank for me !!!

Screw the Scottish economy again and again !

Agree with the position on mortgages and deposits, there needs to be even greater pressure on the banks - as long as you are borrowing a reasonable amount a 10% deposit should be all that you need.

I can't see it creating that big an issue for the oil companies though, only problem is what many have already raised is the risk that they'll just pass the cost on to us, but why should they stop exploring when that's how they create their (slightly ridiculous) profit figures?

Thats what they do when the Government try to screw them .

They think nothing of putting big jobs on hold or cancelling them altogether and the only people that suffer are the workers
