Thought I'd post a little walkthrough of my DIY attempt at refurbing my wheels, I have to give thanks too Dark Samuari for his walkthrough :thumbup1:

So first thing was to wash wheel down, you can see the bad corrosion and where the lacquer has peeled off.

[Image: th_IMG_0202.jpg]

Then I used 400 and 800 WD to flat everyting off and make it all smooth ready for priming, before I primed I used some paint stripped to rub the wheel down to get rid of any extra flakes. I then primed twice and used 800 wet to smooth the primer down,

[Image: th_IMG_0203.jpg]

Then came the 1st coat of paint, again left it for around an hour to dry then used 1200 wet and dry to flat and rub down, again another coat and again 1200 wet to get a smooth finish, then third coat followed by 2 coats of clear lacquer while again using 1200 wet in between coats.

Left overnight indoors then clayed to get rid of overspray, final result was;

[Image: th_IMG_0204.jpg]

Was pleased with the final result but still had some minor bubbles on the inner wheel, so next time I think its best to dremel down the bad areas, preperation is really the key when doing a DIY refurb and patience, you need to keep rubbing down in between coats with wet and dry to get a smooth finish.

On my second wheel I used a filler primer spray from halfords which is good for all the little scuffs and scratches as it fills them in, pic here of my other wheel using filler primer:

Hope this helps someone Smile

Good work mate, I found the dremmel with an abrasive flap wheel a bit to harsh on the soft alloy, much kinder to rub down by hand, takes longer I know but worth it.
What colour silver did you use??

usually caused by contamination, its a reaction between paint and what's ever has contaminated it.
Have you used silicone spray or polish near your painted rims,

Used polish on the car but not sprayed anything near the rims?
I've stuck it in the garage overnight then hopefully give a good sand down tommorrow, problem is I'm the middle of doing my spare wheel and thats got the same problem! So i've had to leave my car on 3 wheels tonight and put the jack on will this be safe also?

was the yellow duster used to wipe away polish or anything like that???

Best bet would be to go and by some thinners and give everything a good wipe over many times as one tiny smallest speck of silicon will cause a reaction and blemish a 1000 times larger.
