The wheels I want are 18x8.5 and come in et38 or et46 offset.

I've currently got aeros fitted and noticed today that theres a metal bar that runs down the side of the stock suspension which is only about 10mm away from my tyres!

With the et46 I'll lose 14mm on the inside so they are never going to fit.

I saw that jay_russel runs the same width wheel, with 225 tyres on et42 but with 3mm spacers, so basically et39?

So should I get the et46 and use spacers to suit, or just go straight for the et38 version?

And will I need coilies to get either option to fit?

that would be true if i was sticking with 7.5 wide rims, but im increasing to 8.5 so the same offset on each wheel gives a completely different result.

as an example...

aero wheel: 18x7.5 et45

if i change that to my chosen alloys which is 18x8.5 et46 (only 1mm different offset, but an inch wider)

the inner edge of the wheel will be 14mm closer to the suspension

and the outer edge will be 12mm closer to the arches.

Its mainly the front I was reffering too as I don't think the back will be an issue.

But I dont think I can go any wider than you had without either lowering the offset or switching to coiles. I just put in the width/offset you had into the calculator I've been using and that put the inner edge 6mm closer to the suspenion, which I think is probably the limit without switching to coilies.

It just suddenly hit me earlier that although I've been looking through pages of posts of what people have fitted on there IS200/300/Altezza trying to work out what will fit, whether or not they had coilovers was the one thing I forgot to check. Sad

18x8.5 ET46 in the front might be a bit tough without arch mods I think?

I'm running 18x8 ET43 in the front and scrape the arches big time. The wheels sit totally flush with the arches and if it wasn't for my coilovers being set super stiff I'd probably have bent up an arch by now.

Cant you order ur new wheels in staggered?

They are only available in 7.5, 8.5 and 9.5. each width having a different concave to the face, and I'm very picky about things being symetrical/even from front to rear so I want the same all round. although the offset doesnt affect the concave at all ive been told.

I might just get something completely different because what I want is going to get expensive. Sad

Just looked up a picture of the front hub with the wheel off...

I thought that bar was just part of the shocks or something, apparently not..lol

I guess the only reason jay_russell can run the offsets he does is because that bar gets further from the tyre the higher up it goes and hes rolling on 20" rims.

Man stole my **** (is d.a.m.n really a swear word????) picture!

Yeah if i remember rightly, a lot of the people who run the CR-KAI's on IS2/300s run 7.5's up front and 8.5's in the rear.

I suppose you could always go with spacers to get the clearance you need. Only thing is you're gonna end up with a pretty crappy stance with poke in the front and tuck in the rear.
