ormi nope mate that stays their im afraid.... i have heard of people grinding it down but i WOULDNT EVER recomend that..NEVER..

haha i totally agree, grinding bits of suspension components is a definite no!

Right progress has been made...I found a great post on THIS thread that explains all about the specific clearances and offsets you can get away with for the IS.

However I found it to be a pain calculating all the different combinations manually each time I wanted to test something.

So I just had a bit of a fiddle on Exel, and have created a spreadsheet so you can just enter your rim width, offset and any spacers you want/need and it will do all the calculations for you, and even colour codes the result in red or green depending on whether it will work or not. Smile

As you can see from the screenshot below, I managed to find a combination of spacers that will put both the front and rear wheels the exact same distance from the arch. And also centres the front wheel perfectly between the arch and suspension so I get the best clearance possible.

A little thing you have to factor in with wheels like this, is the tyre flex when cornering? if you corner hard the tyre can flex quite a bit either way, so if your too close to car parts they can rip them to bits? unless your going for a stretched look?

If I read that right, the chart is saying you should be OK with 8.5" ET45 in the front?

Here's what mine look like with 8.0" ET47

I cant really imagine the tyre poking out much more than that. Even if it was 1/4" you would have tyres outside the arches (i think?). I'm running -2deg camber in the front too.

Also what tyres would you run with 8.5's in the front? 225's? Any wider than that and I would think that it would have a negative effect in performance?

Anyway. End of the day, you can always _make_ them fit. Just depends on how far you're willing to go. :p

Yer it did say somewhere in the guide that guy made, that even when he was well within the limits, he got tyre scrubbing on track days under hard cornering with high spring loading.

hmmm that does look pretty close already...

and yer id be using 225's up front

i think i might look more into getting a style of wheel that I can get in 8" with staggered offsets, should make life easier. Smile

yeh i only mentioned it because i watched a video on youtube of an mg metro turbo,
and i was quite surprised at how much a tyre does flex under cornering? CLICK ME?

The tyre has got to move a good inch or more at some points?
I know he's on track, but some of the roads around will probably still push the tyre quite a bit? :blink:

I don't know how they stay on the rim like that! I don't think I'll be getting quite that much flex on mine. lol But still something to allow in my workings out. :thumbup:
