Marsdendean Those back seats look a mess, look like they have done about 10,000 miles ?

Front seats look a lot worse Huh Sounds like reliability may be an issue, don't think I'd appreciate being stranded with a locked up transmission or brakes Huh

IS 200 Sport with a few mods, Standardish IS-F. The IS250 SE-L with a few mods has gone to a new home.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

The handbrake module is not a problem until it goes wrong. It was not modified only replaced with a new one. It will leave you stranded with hbrake locked on. Easy temp fix roadside with two lengths of wire. Unlock module and put a negative feed to purple wire and a positive feed to the yellow/red wire, that will actuate the release motor.
Defo insist that e gear selector has the latest modified module fitted and get them to check to see if it has been replaced as it will without a doubt fail on a hot day. What happens is that there is a resistor in the module that gets so ****** hot that it differs thermal fracture, sometimes when it cools down it contracts and remakes connection.
SC sensor may fail. It will bring up a eml and goes into limp home mode.
If you are buying from a dealer it should come with a minimum 12mths ext warranty and that includes Jaguar dedicated assistance so you might get me round your brothers house to rectify.
If he get the car I will come round and plug in sdd and carry out a full scan.

Thanks again Phil, really appreciate the info and the offer to check the car over - yep they come with 12 months warranty and I think some of the cars he's looking at still have some of the original warranty on them. Given these issues, do you think it's worth negotiating an even longer warranty? Would these types of problems (like the handbrake thing) be covered by the warranty should they fail some way down the line?

Also how much of an issue is mileage? Would a 2.5yr old car with about 45k miles on it be something to avoid or is it not an issue if the price is right?

@ parthiban. I doubt if thet will offer to extend the warranty as this cost £1000 per year.
All the above items raised will be covered by either manufactures warranty and extended.
Please don't let these issues put you off as in general they are a good car. IMHO I don't not think a standard xf drives better than an Is Lex. My 300 was smoother and quieter than a 2.7/3.0 XF without any shadow of doubt.

Not going to get an E63 for less than £60k I think, and the old model is, well, old :tongue_smilie:

Yep just thought there might be room for a discount if the warranty was purchased at the same time as the car? Worth thinking about then if it would cover everything.

That's interesting that the IS was smoother and quieter, I'd expect it to be a sharper drive but not to be more comfortable so that is a surprise - haven't had a chance to go out in an XF yet but will do so soon Smile

Then you may as well get an Aston if your spending £60k.
