Of course, if they are shiny, and you ever park on the street (who doesn't?) some scumbag will try to have them away for their own wheels, or kids will for their BMX bikes! So some kind of locking ones make a lot of sense. Ones with a tiny alley key you can keep on your keyring or in the glovebox are good. As are the Richbrook spinning ones, again with special keyring key spanner thing to remove them.

I don't do enough mileage to validate the claim of less tyre wear, more mileage etc, but I can vouch for the fact that the hold pressure much better than O2. I went 6mths without having to get some more put in, and even then it had only dropped 1pound. On O2 I was checking every two weeks or so as when I do drive, I do drive hard.

I think possibly the claims of less wear more mileage etc. may only be purely a result of them holding pressure better? That is that gain improvements in mileage and tyre wear with Nitrogen, as they assume without it you will be running, at least some of the time, with less than optimum pressure, which in turn would have negative effects on mileage and wear.

Try not to shop at Halfords unless you have to!

I only based my comments on research done by the AA and the RAC, so not sure if its reliable, but never seen any research for it, it just seemed to pop up one day that road users where using nitrogen

I know its used extensively in motor racing, but not sure on the reasons as i guess extra loads etc

Extra loads as well as increased temperatures, yeah.

The way I understand it (which may or may not be correct) is that it improves MPG and tyre wear because the tyres are kept at optimum psi. You would get the same improvements if you checked your tyre pressures were correct every day. What the Nitrogen gives you is those benefits... without the hassle of checking every day!
