I was thinking of replacing my number plates, one especially has got water under the laminate, or something, and is just starting to look old and tired. This plate actually has some other club, which I have never heard of, "www.lexusownersclub.co.uk" written across the bottom, in small lettering, below the registration itself.

I wandered if it was possible to get similar with "www.outlawjapclub.co.uk"? Although with recent changes to the law regarding these things, that may not be possible. I think they may have the name of the (registered) garage or shop that made it and it's postcode on now?

I have a place I usually get plates (only about £15 a pair at trade too!) but I would prefer to be repping OJC than LOC (as it is currently) or "ALS Motor Spares" (as on my other cars).

Ok Moley, I'll have to have a look for that.

I figured that was one way Dave, but didn't know if anyone had done them before, and those places will only use standard fonts, I expect. Plus would that be legal or not?

My front plate is a 'show plate' the actual font is the legally required one. However its slightly shorter than the standard one, and I asked for there to be virtually no border around it.

Been past numerous police and ANPR vehicles, even got stopped for a 'random' breath test a while ago and they didn't bat an eyelid. Smile

EDIT: And I have nothing at all at the bottom of mine, which is probably even more noticeable than having a website in place of a company name and postcode as it should be.

I'm sure the Police are not allowed to just randomly pull you for a breath test, without good reason. My Dad once got pulled in a brand new car (think it was a Celica) about a week after that reg was released, so it was blatantly new, and they told him it was a random breath test and also they needed to check all of his tyres! (Cos most new cars' tyres are illegal within the first week?) He didn't wanna kick off too much at Police on the side of the road late at night, (and had, of course, not been drinking!) so went along with it. But wrote a letter to the Chief Cuntstable and got an official apology stating that the officers involved had been warned, as this is not allowed. But that is another matter really! :offtopic:

I was thinking of also getting my front plate smaller (not sure on the back one?) as there only 5 charters in my reg (ain't I posh?) as long as I have 11mm between characters and double that between the two "groups" it should still be legal. I've seem similar on Orimi's car I think? (If not currently then previously?)

There are quite a few show plate websites. Can anyone recommend any as being particularly customisable and/or cheap?

Ormi and Stav both have 5 characters, Stav has a space between his first and second character.

I believe neither of those is technically legal then. (Though you may well get away with it most of the time.)

Quote:THE LAW STATES THAT:

They must conform to one of the groups shown:- Number plates fitted after 1 September 2001 or Number plates fitted before 1 September 2001.

* You must not alter, rearrange or misrepresent the letters or numbers
* Characters must not be moved from one group to the other (e.g. A242 ABC must not be displayed as A242A BC).

Offences may result in any or all of the following:
* A fine of up to £1,000
* The registration mark may be WITHDRAWN
* The vehicle may FAIL the MOT test
