James S Could you just not have an incar adjuster for the boost? Turn it up when you want to have a blast and turn it down when you want to save fuel?
My mate has one on his R5 turbo, and it works a treat, not sure whether you can do the same on a supercharger though.
A SC puts strain on the engine, its like running your AC all the time (only more drag), not like a turbo, so having a clutch system will save fuel, but with obvious drawbacks.
The Mclaren SLR takes something like 100BHP just to drive its SC's
Could a micro switch be installed so when the throttle is past a set point the SC kicks in?

Excellent, did you get it installed and running ok, i'm planning on switching my s/c for use in a twincharged setup, nice to see the clutch didn't require anything other then current to operate, I was worried they might require an actual signal!

Could you turn the SC off for normal driving, then turn it on when you want a blast, without damaging the engine. What do you do with your fcd setting when the SC is not on?
I believe that was the point of the clutch switch! But no, it should not cause any damage to anything. I would imagine the FCD setting can stay the same? As it's primary purpose is to trick the ECU's high boost safety cutout mechanism into thinking boost levels are acceptable, so with no extra boost from the charger, then it should still be ok? Although Patrick was running his home made TTE Black Box replica on his, and so at low boost (as you would get with charger off) the ECU would see an accurate figure from the sensor, as the TTE BB stops at the max allowed voltage and holds it as the boost increases, whereas the FCD sends a percentage of the real figure to the ECU all the time.

I would imagine 2 wires from the clutch to a dash mounted switch, very simple.

What I would be interested to know, from Patrick... Did you notice any improvement in MPG with this fitted? With no boost, would you not need to put your foot down a bit more to get the same power for normal driving? This may negate any fuel saved by not driving the charger?

simple pressure switch would do the job, there are several in autoclaves to control the pressure build-ups.
