I had my MOT on Sat, all fine apart from a minor emissions problem.
CO2 is supposed to be 0.2 but mine was 3.8 !

I've still got the cat on my car, though it is starting to rattle. Does that mean it's on its way out or do you think there is another issue at play here?
The guy testing my car said maybe there was an air leak or maybe it needed a re-map.

I've got a HKS exhaust manifold and a 5Zigen back box, everything else engine related is standard.

Anyone got any ideas?

If you're running different headers on your car then you will have lost your precats. Therefore if the emissions test was performed before the cat in your downpipe had a chance to warm up, that could have been the reason for the fail?

You could always try taking it out for a long hard drive and then getting him to stick it straight on the tester?

I thought Altezzas (RS200) only had one cat?
I did take it for a long hard drive but they didn't test emissions straight away so the car cooled down a bit.

I'll get my mate to check the obd tonight.

Cheers.

Have you got the lambda figures from the test?

Well CO2 being too high means you're running way too rich, so probably a duff sensor (either air flow or temperature, water temperature, or lambda). As Ian said, stick an OBD2 reader on and see which sensor is reporting a ridiculous value.

I may be wrong here, but I thought the Auto 'Tezzas had manifold pre-cats, and the manuals did not?

With a reading that high I would suspect that your cat might be shot (also, rattling is never a good sign!) I assume it is the original factory one? Though as Jim said, was that from cold? My old Supercharged IS200 had precats removed and the main cat still in place. It would pass MOT, just, if it was nice and warm when tested.

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

I think you're right stoney, autos do have pre-cats. Mine's a manual.

The car wasn't cold. I ragged it to the test centre where it was left idling untill it was tested. Yep, original cat. You can only hear the rattling if you jack the car up an bang on the cat. It's not audible while driving.

I will report back when the obd has been read.
Thanks for the help everyone.
