More doom and gloom for the motorist, 5% ethanol has been In unleaded for some time now but from 2012 that will be going upto 10%, this is not good news for some engines.

I was concerned for my IS300, it seems the only Lexus models affected are below.
Lexus:
E10 petrol is cleared for use in all Lexus European petrol models made from January 1998, excluding:
 IS250 2.5 L V6 with engine 4GR-FSE made between August 2005 and September 2007.
 GS300 3.0 L V6 with engine 3GR-FSE made between January 2005 and September 2007.
 LS460 4.6 L V8 with engine 1UR-FSE made between August 2006 and September 2007.

The option is for us to use super unleaded only as that will onlt have 5% ethanol.

Is it really affecting the UK motorist that much? That's 3 models from a large manufacturer built in the last 15 years (all direct injection I think?) which it's not suitable for, but they're performance-ish engines anyway so you'd in theory already be paying the £1 extra per tank to put super in, wouldn't you?

Good to be aware of it but mountain out of a molehill methinks.

Agreed. Useful info, but unlikely to effect me much in my IS200, as I used Premium fuel 90% of the time anyway.

How will it effect people driving those models? If it does harm to the engine, then I don't see that they would be allowed to sell it, without being liable? If it does no harm, then what is the problem with using it?

So has this been going on all year then? The first I had heard of it.

I have attempted to look up damaged caused by, it all seems to be it could damage older cars, more likely with carburettors, main jets need to be made bigger and some sort of idling adjustments.
Every time i see a new EU regulation in the press , I'm concerned how thats going to affect my car or my wallet ! maybe i posted this thread up in haste but still handy to be aware of whats going on .

Always useful to know this kind of thing. not exactly hasty, as they have been doing it 10 months already, it seems.

Might it effect my old Land Rover then? That runs twin SU carbs on a 3.5 V8. Though I need to get rid of it soon anyway, so may not be that relevant afteral!
