Has he bought a bargain or a dog ?
Has he bought a bargain or a dog ?
I wouldn't touch it, but thats simply because im fussy with how people sell their cars, the description is far too basic imo.a dealer would have given them around that amount surely? so if they wanted a quick sale why didnt they just do that?..and why would you leave an exhaust rattling, just fix it-get engine management light turned off, sell the car for an extra 1k.
but maybe i'm just too cynical/clinical when it comes to buying cars. Hopefully he's got a true bargain and the seller is a mug for letting it go at that price..time will tell.
Hmmm it could be a bargain
only point that would concern me is
Slight exhaust rattle which is linked to the engine management light being on
Is that all it is why is it rattling why is the EML on.....
first i would get some obd readings from it. it could be a dodgy o2 sensor reading if the xaust is knackered, or broken cat?
EML is emissions related, so I would guess at a CAT issue, because of the rattling, a O2 sensor wouldn't rattle.
If he goes to a Powerflow garage they can put a CAT in for a lot less then Toyota, after checking it out first. For the money its worth a gamble.
Can they be changed without engine removal?
I wouldn't say it's a dog. But it came 2nd at crufts lol
I personally wouldn't touch it.
If the EML is on then go get the code read (you can even buy a obd2 reader for £70) and either fix the problem or let the buyer know of any underlying issues.
That light could be on for a number of reasons.
Too many ppl are in too much of a rush to sell something when they know it's not right.
On the other hand I hope your mates got a bargain
toxo Exhaust rattle would put me off straight away. The 1ZZ has precats in the manifolds that are a known point of failure, they disintegrate and quite a lot of the time take the engine out with them as well. Perfect excuse for a 190bhp 2ZZ conversion though

True Audi V8 - there is a subframe for this conversion in Milton Keynes just waiting a new owner. The guy who did it already made 2 of them!!
