Try this:

In 'Options' --> 'Under the Hood' --> 'Downloads', if you had checked 'Ask where to save each file before downloading', uncheck it. Try a download now. It it works fine, you can go back and check it again, to choose to ask. It should work fine.

Yeah whatever it's on, you need to change it and then change it back to refresh the settings in the config.
